Rear Slide Dead

This is a 2011 Georgetown 280DS....

We de-winterized last week and in the process of cleaning the filter, spilled some water on the "slide out room controller" which is located UNDER the freakin' water filter. What moron thought that was a good idea?!?

Anyway...we dried as best we could, left the door open and ran a fan into it for hours and thought all was well. We closed her up, slides in and put her in the garage. We're getting ready for our first camping trip this week and ran the front slide out and the rear slide won't move. Doesn't click, lights don't dim like it's drawing any power...nothing. Fuses seem fine, we wiggled, pushed & cussed wires...nothing works. DEAD.

DH thought we fried the controller:

BUT... doesn't that control BOTH slides? So if it's fried, neither slide would work? The info about the controller claims it's easy to install if it's something we need to do.

Any thoughts &/or suggestions on what to check would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Karen.

Not sure about your Georgetown, but my MH has a controller for each slide. Might look around the other slide a bit.

It looks from the picture as that is the controller for only one slide since it only has one stop adjust.

Most likely one controller for each. Remove it and jumper between the battery connections and the slide motor, touching intermittently with the last jumper. It should go one way or the other if all else is well and reversing polarity should send it the other way.
I recently made up a manual connector with a reversing sw. for a friend and so he could operate their slide in the advent of a controller going bad.

Tropical36! That worked. Thank you!

Does anyone know if that controller is normally something that's in stock at RV dealers? If not, where can we buy one. They aren't on Amazon!

Hi KarenS144,
Go to
http://www.nidec.com/~/media/nidec-c...r_controllerds this is the company that makes the controller. They might be able to help or provide the contact information as to where you can purchase a controller. Scroll to the bottom of the page for their contact information.

Consider swapping control modules , with another slide, to ensure it is the control module.

You're welcome and glad to be of help. That pretty much says that you have a bad controller. You might check with the drive or slide manufacture for a replacement and what you have looks to be a Lippert model.

We're scheduled to leave this coming Wednesday so finding a controller, getting it shipped and installed by Wed is doubtful. Can we jump from bat to motor to run it out when we get there & then back in when it's time to leave? If it's too likely we'd cause more problems, we could survive with it being in except my favorite shorts are in the drawer that's blocked! Of course.

The manufacturer's website (thanks GaryKD) doesn't show anywhere to order one so I guess we'll call them in the morning. There is a dealer (Stinnett) not too far from us so if they have one maybe DH can pick it up there.

Thanks for the help!

Hi KarenS144,
One can jumper 12 VDC to the slide motor as much as one wants. Just be very careful to open and retract the slide only as far as it would normally go. A helper might be needed. I have found a portable 12 VDC emergency car starting battery works very well.

Here are a few controllers where one may take the place of yours, you could also call this company to see which one would be compatible.
Click on pictures for information and diagrams.

I found your control here.

Try burying the controller in uncooked rice, it should draw the moisture out.

You can do that or if you want a little more convience and can find one of these at a hardware somewhere.... Amazon.com: 30 Amp Toggle Switch 3 Position Polarity Reversing DC Motor Control- Momentary: Automotive
then all you'll have to do is plug on four wires and temporary connect them to your battery and slide motor wires for at the slide manual operation. Now you have something that will test for a bad controller and temporarily replace it as well.

Thanks for the ideas! There are SO many different controllers and they all look like they require different wiring schemes to me. Hopefully, we can track down the same controller as we have so the wires match up.

If it looks like it will be awhile before we can get one, we'll try the toggle switch. That seems simple enough.

Thanks again!

Update! Colerain in Cinci (where we purchased our G'town) had the controller and over nighted it. DH got it installed today and it works! We still have to set the stop though. Hopefully, we won't shoot the slide & bed out into the driveway.
