Rear Slide problem

2003 Damon Challenger 36'. When I slide the bedroom out the top doesn't finish. It slides out with the top slightly tilted in and then should straighten up when it seals. It stopped doing that a few weeks ago. I can't find the motor and the closest RV shop is about 700 miles north. Right now it is not a big deal because we get almost no rain between November and June. Then it rains every night. It seals fine when closed.

Any ideas, suggestions

If anyone is interested in RVing in Mexico let me know. It is safe if you avoid certain areas especially when you are in a group. I am not trying to make money at this, just looking for company. There are RV parks down here and you can free camp in many areas.

Bill, do you have a slide out topper over this slide out? If so, the topper may be the culprit. The spring assembly may be binding and not allowing the slide out to move freely. What happens if you push on the top of the slide out? If is goes out, you may want to clean and lubricate the slide out topper as well as the slide out seals.

I tried getting up on a ladder and torning the topper by hand to loosen it and it didn't sem to work. I s it possible that when I let it go it pulled the slide back? Where would I lube it. It needs to be replaces since it has a tear in the front. I am hoping I can find a upholtery shop down here that can make a new cover. I got me truck seats reupholstered and it loks like show room new for less than $100.

Thanks for the tip
Bill

OK that was the problem . The spring is wound way tight. I don't see a way to, easily, lessen the tension. I am going to take the whole thing off and get the upholstery guy to cut off the bad part and sew the tube back in. It looks like once I do that I can unwind the spring a tad and that should help. What was confusing was reading some posts were folks had standing water on the cover. Mine is ike a drum skin which is probably why it tore in the first place. Is there anything I should be careful about in taking the 10 screws out of the slide front? Other than having the slide in when I do it.

All of you folks have been a great help and I appreciate it.

Having the slide in should take the tension off of the wind-up spring so I think you'd be OK.

Did a manual come with that slide topper? That's where I'd start.

DO NOT REMOVE SCREWS WITHOUT SECURING THE SPRING TORSION! there are holes in each end of the axle that can be pinned through each end cap and removal is safe. You can see a installation instruction sheet here iRV2 Forums - Files - A & E Slide Out topper installation

Manual is your friend! Sometimes they can be found online.
