Rear view camera

I have installed a Tadi rear view camera in my 2004 Damon Challenger and have continuous problems. Tadi has been very cooperative and have supplied a new camera which I installed and is now not working but showing a "parking" pattern, a bunch of lines on the screen but no picture. I contacted Tadi and was informed by someone (a tech maybe?) that it was possibly due to a power surge in the voltage. The unit is hooked directly into the ignition. They suggested a different power supply, tail light. The wiring I have is too short to reach the tail light and is so fine that I haven't found any. I can reach a clearance light at the rear. Would that give me a proper power supply to run the unit?
If anyone has suggestions please keep it very simple, I am soooo stupid when it comes to anything electrical. I live quite a distance from a knowledgable business that might possibly help me. Can't find anyone around where I live.
Thanks
Bryan

The marker light would work if they are on all the time or if they go on with the headlights. Normally you hook the unit to the fuse box. The ignition key only powers a switch so there shouldn't be any power surge there. If anything you would get a power drop. I just have mine hooked into the cigarette lighter with a plug and plug it in when I need it. I would check the camera connections first before you went to a lot of trouble. Maybe you've gotten another dud camera.
