Rebuild of Colorado Awning

Some may know that I had a little disaster coming home from Disney a few months ago where my main 21' awning fully deployed at 65mph in Ohio in high winds....

It is an absolute miracle there was zero damage to any part or the coach or awning. I did pull over so quick, the awning was only out maybe 30 seconds.

Well, this is my first coach and it was just dumb to run down the road with only the locking lever on the tube set with both riser bar locks broken. I did not know that each side of the vertical bars had those plastic flip lock arms to keep the awning up against the coach.

Well, some may not know that Colorado awnings have all the replacement parts available to rebuild and make your setup as new.

General RV had all the parts e.g. locking levers for the riser bars, locking handles that adjust how high you want the awning when deployed, the pull strap that opens/closes the awning. For about $120 I replaced all that stuff and now have a fully updated and SAFE awning. I hate learning the hard way. Sometimes, it's mandatory.

Also bought two backup velcro straps for the riser bars JUST IN CASE the plastic lock levers fail....

I also checked all the large lag bolts that secure the awning to the coach and they were all very good and only one or two needed just a bit of turning to firm them up...

Glad you got 'er fixed up. There are lots of threads about awnings opening up in windy conditions; it's more common than one would think.

Question Awning clips?

DW & I have a new 2014 ACE 29.2, never camped yet. Will be camping in our driveway this weekend. Back to the subject... We have an electric awning. Are there "clips" that I should release/secure with this awning?

I don't know about the new style awnings. From what I can tell, they don't work at all like the old style.
