Recommendations/Cost for Flooring Replacement

Wanting to Replace the Carpeting in our Coach and looking for recommendations for installers. Also trying to get an idea for what to expect for the cost of replacing the Carpeting to Laminate or Wood flooring?

I asked a couple of vendors at the Hershey show. Cost I got was in the $6K ball park and up depending on floor material selection (I was asking specifically about laminate). I have been looking as well and have found no vendor within easy reach of our home location. There are several in Indiana and Florida but it ties the coach up for too long to have it done on the road. Considering doing it myself at this point but remain undecided.

Don't use laminate, even the so-called waterproof laminates are only good for 24 hours or less. That's not enough for an un-attended RV. A better choice is luxury vinyl. You can get it in plank form similar to laminate or and it is water proof. Wood is beautiful, expensive, and, at least for us wouldn't be a good choice since we have a dog and camp where there's sand and other grit.

We used peel and stick luxury vinyl and commercial quality carpet tiles attached with carpet tape. For us it was a DIY job and since I was working with relatively small pieces instead of a big piece of carpet, fitting wasn't difficult. I can't see spending thousands of dollars on having new flooring installed.

do a site search for Ernie Ekberg. Not sure if he still does floors but he did/does an awesome job. Located north of Dallas as I recall. He is also willing to share his wealth of knowledge to other RV owners. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f258/wood...on-268934.html

I replaced flooring in my RV and got snap together flooring at Home Depot called LIFE PROOF vinyl type. Snaps together like the wood stuff. It's about 1/4 inch thick, it's water proof . It floats ,not glued down,,I'm lovin it. Put it in my bathroom area and kitchen/entry area. I'm keeping the wall to wall rug in my bedroom and livingroom. I tackle the rug replacement this coming spring. Biggest problem doing the carpet is getting the furniture out of the way.

Clifford, then you will find the real problem. Getting all the damn staples out[emoji12].
BTW Ernie is still doing floors, but not for much longer. Love our Acacia manufactured hardwood floor that he installed.

I recently replaced all of my carpeting with hand scraped engineered hardwood flooring. With the hand scraped, you can easily repair any nicks, etc. and it blends in. We glued the flooring down. One thing I learned in doing this is that because of the confined space, it is much easier to back butter each piece rather than spread the glue across the floor. The expert on flooring is Ernie Ekberg and if you have any questions he is very helpful. You can contact him and look at some pictures at:

Carpet store

I went to a local carpet store several weeks ago about redoing the flooring in my class a. They are interested but they said to come back in January because the business is down and the installers are looking for work. I will be going in a few weeks to get a price.

We had to replace our linelioum this spring when it split over the winter. (Tore diagonally from one corner of the RV to the other). We contacted Winnie who recommended a commercial vinyl stick tile.

I purchased the tile from Lowe’s and had it installed by a local RV tech “Wells RV Service”. Not a upgrade I wanted to do, but very happy with results. I was just out to the RV last week and despite a couple weeks of subzero temps, no signs of the tiles lifting. I do have a extra box of spares, just in case.

(Apologies, for some reason he pics are always sideways when I post from my iPad)

You might want to check Craig's List and other sources for independent installers. The installers used by many, if not most carpet stores are independent contractors, not employees (this is from the guy that did my house on behalf of S&G Carpet).

One issue you might run into with having a store install it is that many products aren't warranted for RV installation, not necessarily because it won't work but because the manufacturers don't want the warranty hassles (temperature swings, movement, etc.)

I suppose you could sign a waiver with the store if they should decide this is an issue.

We have a 39' DP and we replaced our carpet with vinyl planking. We did the job ourselves in a few days. As firedoc said the hardest part were the dang staples

Glad to hear you're still here, read some of your posts about 4 years ago.Did the floor front to back in my 03 phaeton.Used bamboo, about 3/4 thick.glued down.Pulled furniture left carpet on slide but replaced it.A local installer charged me $200,did about 80 % in a day.I did all the detail work around the cabinets and the front of the mh.Its been 4 years, still love it.Down side ...added weight to mh,lots of work adding plywood to make floor even as kitchen area was tile and higher than living room area. You can do it!!!
