There are so many stories about red light cameras. I've heard that (1) cities/counties reduced the yellow light timing to catch more drivers, (2) courts cant prove beyond a doubt it's you if you have on sunglasses, (3) ignore the tickets.....etc. I have noticed that quite a few red light cameras around S Cal have been removed. Not sure the reason.

I received a ticket ($235.00) for crossing the double yellow line to enter the left turn lane while cars were stopped at the light in my car. I'm sure it will be over $300. before I'm finished $235 for ticket, $64 to register for traffic school (so it doesn't show up on my insurance) plus $X? for the school. The part that really irritated me, besides getting caught, was how the officer were on about how I endangered everyone by doing this.

According the the link below based on GA law, a red light violation only takes place if your vehicle crosses the stop line after it turn red. It isn't because you are still going through the intersection when it comes on.

Running a red light law

Also from Jersey village, TX a similar explanation on Page 2

we got one in TN in our car. They sent us a video of the light and us going through it. It takes all the issues out.

Here in the DC area, the municipalities are happy because everyone looks at it like an "All Win" situation. The municipality wins because they get their money. The driver wins because while they got caught, they didn't get any points... photo tickets do not have points. With that said, I am shocked seeing here how some have to go to traffic school. I can understand being responsible for the ticket if it's your vehicle, but how do they prove who's driving. Do those photo cameras out west have frontal pics as well?

Find out what major retail businesses are near where you got the "ticket". Write them a letter saying you will no longer shop in their store(s) because you will not take a chance on getting a ticket for just driving to shop.
You may laugh at this but the Woodfield Mall and surrounding merchants put such pressure on the city of Schaumburg, IL that they pulled out all the red lights cameras a few years ago.

I attended traffic school here in California about 15 years ago. According to the man who taught traffic school, if any part of your vehicle is in the intersection before the red light comes on the ticket is invalid. I'm not sure how the cameras here in CA are set but I was told they will not come on before the light goes red. I worry about the timing more when I am driving the MH then when I am in my car.

You're lucky you live in DC (just kidding, you're really not.), here in AZ you
DO get points for photo tickets.
The first ticket, photo or live stop, you can go to traffic school and you don't get a point,
but the "Fees" are usually equal to the ticket fine. And you can
only do that once every 2 years.
Any ticket after that is full bore, and traffic school is mandatory for all red
light tickets.

And yes, when you get a photo ticket here, they mail you the ticket with
a frontal photo showing your face (ticket not sent if face is not clear),
a photo of your license plate, and 2 photos of you entering the intersection
after the light turned red.
On the photo is printed location, date time, how long the light was yellow,
how long the light was red before you entered the intersection, and how
fast you were going.
Also an online link to a short video of you running the red light.

And they add an extra $87 if the photo shows you weren't wearing
a seat belt.

Don't ask me how I know all this.

Some places ticket if any part of the vehicle is in the intersection. Others are more lenient and ticket if the vehicle enters the intersection after the light turns red. Some municipalities reduce the time for yellow in order to increase the number of citations. Many semi truck drivers don't seem to care one way or the other. The only sure way for a MH with toad to avoid a ticket is to stop on green, wait for the light to turn red, and proceed when it turns green again. Then, you may be ticketed for impeding the flow of traffic!

i WAS TOLD THAT RED LIGHT CAMERA CITATIONS WERE TOTALLY BEATABLE AND COULD NOT STAND IN A COURT OF LAW. UNDER THE PROTECTION OF OUR CONSTITUTION YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO HAVE YOUR ACCUSER PRESENT IN A COURT OF LAW. WELL CAMERAS CANT WALK IN NOR DO THEY SPEAK. THAT BEING SAID ANY TYPE OF REPRESENTATION FROM THE CAMERAS REPRESENTITIVES IS PURE HEAR SAY. THE MINUTE THEY OPEN THEY'RE MOUTH YOU DECLARE HEARSAY YOUR HONER AND IT SHOULD BE SUSTAINED. I AM NOT A LAWYER THOUGH BUT HAVE READ THIS AND IT MAKES GOOD SENSE TO ME.

Here in WA the out of state camera company has X # of days to notify the state of your ticket and the state has X # of days to notify you. In my case, neither were on time. I protested in writing, case dismissed. I would also go to court to demonstrate why you could not stop that fast if you tried.
