Refrigerator Change Out

A friend and I changed out my old Nevercold refrigerator to a Samsung RF18 residential. The install looks great. I would like for the refrigerator to be completely unmovable while going down the road. To do that, I will need to run screwe in the side of the refrigerator. My question is where in the refrigerator can I safely mount screws? Click image for larger version

We also replaced the Norcold, I would not try to put any screws into the refer. We only bolted down the rear and front of the box to the floor. We were able to use the outside opening door outside behind the refer. Used 2 bungee cords to hold front doors from opening as we traveled, after 15,000 never had a problem. Others had there secrets to kept it in place.
Good luck

Thanks. We have the back bolted to the floor via a metal strap with existing screw in the back, and the front feet on L bracket braces. It is secure and tight, but will wiggle just a little bit when you shake it.

Your answer may be to just get a wedge to the very top of the refrigerator, so as to prevent it from ever just tipping out.

For residential built ins this is often the spec for safety, so it should work for you and avoid any penetrations to the body of your Refrigerator.

Best of Luck,

When I installed my RF 197, I used a piece of angle aluminum with heavy duty double sided tape across the top of the fridge and bolted the vertical section to hardwood trim above the fridge. Doesnt look like you have room at the top. Alternatively, you could consider that for the top RH side if you can attach to the side wall. You do not want to put screws thru the sides as there are cooling coils in there. Your fridge looks very secure and with so little room at the top, forward tipping doesnt look to be a risk. You installation looks great. I am sure you have already found what a great difference it makes!

I had wooden stops, on three sides of the back wheels. , I sawed the front roller wheels in half, after it was installed ( for clearance because the doors dragged the ceiling when opened) I installed a 3" bolt standing upward from underneath the platform in front the front wheels.

Top hinge mount holes to secure fridge to wall or ceiling

I installed a GE Fridge and used the top hinge mount holes on both sides to secure the top to the walls. I temporarily used metal "Plumbers Tape" with holes in it until I can fabricate something better. Metal strap is working great.

The geometry with the space on top will not let it fall out of the hole. We have enjoyed cold beer and frozen ice cream. Love ours!! felcro the doors together to keep from opening while in transit.

First off, Samsung doesn't want you to drill through or install any LARGE screws through the outside of the refer. Here is what I did......I made a plate that I attached to the back corner of my Samsung by using two sided tape and 1/2" self tapping screws. I made the plate extend about one inch above the refer, but was I was still able to slide the refer through the opening. I mounted he plate on the corner of the refer that was closest to the roof vent opening. My roof vent opening was framed in aluminum. Once the refer was in place and secured at the bottom, I ran an aluminum bar 1/8" x 1" thick stock from the aluminum frame of the roof vent opening to the bracket that I made. This LOCKED the top of the refer in place. It didn't move at all.

ricere,

This info might be a little late for you since you already have your fridge installed, but HERE is a link to a forum pdf download of my Samsung install three years ago. Besides bolting the rear of the fridge at the bottom, my installer created carpeted top & side support rails that keep the fridge from moving around (see pages 8&9). This “snugged” the Samsung into place, I get zero movement even after three years.
