Hello gertie03 and

Have you allowed enough time for it to cool down. It usually takes 4 hours or so to see if it's working. Also not sure what you mean by "we can't get it to shut off" Do you mean when pressing the off button the external panel indicator lights won't shut off?
I may not be able to help you but if you post back with some additional info like the make and model# of your fridge, someone may have more info then I do.

To turn it off you might need to hold down the on/off button for several seconds.

Also try to unplug the unit from 120 & 12 volt power source for a while, then plug it all back in and see how everything works.

You do not say what brand of refer you have for us to help out.

But here is a guess..our Norcold 1200 would not cool when turned on, (it did come on, but unlike you I could turn it off) and after checking Norcold folks we got a "new" thermister. This attaches to the interior light and sets on the inside cooling fins. Easy fix. Refer cools and works great.

That was my question too. These things take a long time to cool down...especially with the weather we've been having. We turn ours on the night before departure.

It is reccomended by ALL manufactures of Absorbent Refrigs; That things be cooled down befor placing them in the Frig;. That being said, that frig. Is basicly a unit to keep things Cool after they are allready cooled down. . A house/120 Frig has a compressor to make the coolent more effishient , And yet they cost only Half what a RV frig is. SO cool things down FIRST, then put them in the Frig... Then the guy says I don't have anything to precool them . OH WELL;;; Life is good. Also Some things need to be addressed be Professionals in there field..

Additional tips

Be aware that the fridge units needs 12 volt power as well. If you have your 12 V coach disconnect switch in the "OFF" position...the fridge controller board has no power to operate.

It helps to pre-cool the
fridge by placing ice inside. I use a stainless steel bowl filled with ice cubes and an inside fan to circulate the chiled air. This done two days prior to departure. Freezer compartment gets chilled quickly as it's a tiny compartment and first-served via the cooling coils.

Fridge compartment, on the other hand, takes some time; but after 16 hrs running it gets down to 40 degrees. Once you start packing food inside....remember not to "Pack" it; but leave some vertical air circulation voids among the food items. Stand flat items vertically [in other words]. Avoid boxy packaging and oversized containers that prevent compartment air circulation from immediate contact with food contents. Less packaging, the better.

If the freezer is at right temp & fridge just doesn't get below 50...then examine the thermister wire [on the fridge fins]. Relocating it vertically on the fin will alter the temperature sensing sent to the controller. If this item is bad, it's a simple replacement.
