Registration and Insurance

It all depends on which state you register it in. Being from Australia I guess you would register it where you're going to reside.
In Texas my registration is by weight and it runs about $320 for a 34,000 lb. coach. California or Arizona does it different and I believe they go by value...may be wrong on that.

Insurance....$1000 to $2000 a year would be in the ball park for a lot of places.

Hi Darren,

It will depend on which state you register the coach in. All of them have different rates for registering. Insurance is also the same, it will depend on where you register it.

Check into getting an LLC registration out of Montana or South Dakota. Google LLC for those states and you will find all kinds of information. This is an example.

Darren,

I will jump in here. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement and future coach.

Earlier today I looked at your post. My first thought was that we don't have enough information in order to be able to help you. Registration and insurance costs are a function of the cost of the sales price and which state where you will be registering the coach. I could probably approximate the purchase price. You don't say in which state that you will register the coach. So I couldn't be of much help. Therefore I didn't reply.

Now I see that others may be cautious as well. So I will just ask a few questions to launch the discussion:

Will you be registering your coach in the USA? If so, in which state? (Note: registration fees and sales taxes vary greatly between states...so if you can, choose your state wisely...see below),

Do you have a residence where you pay property tax in the USA? (This may greatly narrow the state of your RV registration options),

Insurance will vary by the state of registration, the MSRP of the vehicle, and coverage limits. I've seen reported (on this forum) of between $500 to $2,500. I don't recall the coach models being mentioned. I have a 2015 Newmar Ventana (36 foot 8 inches), so shorter than what you are seeking. Our MSRP is less than the coach that you mention. I live in Southern California so our insurance rates are higher than average. We pay approximate $1,800 per year for insurance.

Our annual registration just came due (it has been one year since we purchased our coach). The registration fees are about $1,300. Once again, this is driven by location. This amount will decrease over time as the coach ages. Once again, we have a home in Southern California, so we do not have the option of registering and insuring our coach in a state with lower rates (like South Dakota, Texas, or Florida).

Lastly, thank you for taking the time to see what we have to offer in North America. Don't miss out on seeing the fantastic National Park system that we have in the USA. Canada has their own terrific offerings as well.

My wife and I both retired last August. Since then we took possession of our new motorhome. We've traveled through 41 USA states and 5 Canadian provinces, logging over 16,000 miles.

I can state, without reservation, that we are Having A Blast !!!!

I hope that this starts the conversation to get you the answers to your questions.

Glad HavingABlast mentioned state property taxes in the post above. While here in South Carolina my registration is less than $50 a year, my property taxes on my rig are $1550 per year.
