Remember the old Maytag Ad

Remember that ad where the appliance repair guy for Maytag was just sitting around watching TV with nothing to do because their appliances were so well built they never needed repairs?

I would like to find the MH manufacturer that has that same problem. LOL

Not going to happen ever. The only one that never breaks is sitting on the lot for sale. Once sold the gremlins are let loose to start breaking stuff.

Yea. There's the truth in advertising laws, and we all know if it's on TV, it MUST be true

Kinda funny! I was into quality management and a LeanSigma Master Blackbelt at Maytag.

I was on a group that voted for the actor Hardy Rawls to replace Gordon Jump, (who had replaced Jesse White), as the Maytag Repairman in 2003. I met Hardy and Gordon at the trade shows while I worked there. The other companies had women in bikinis handing out grilled food samples, we had a middle aged actor in a uniform handing out a brochure, (or taking pictures and signing autographs)!

The entire company was acquired by Whirlpool, and then Harry was replaced by Clay Earl Jackson in 2007, and most recently by Colin Ferguson in 2014, the current Maytag Repairman.

On the other hand if nothing ever broke you'd never full learn how all the systems in your MH worked. Look at it as a learning experience.

Nothing malfunction or break??? I hope not. I love war stories about what happened and how the problem was overcome or repaired.

Might be possible IF a motorhome could sit in one place all the time and only be used for a few min once a week.

That Maytag campaign is one of the great ad campaigns of all time. Unlike most companies, Maytag stuck with the campaign for many years. You can see a picture of just a Maytag hat and you think "dependability."

The boating industry went through this phase a few years ago. Quality poor enough that there was a market for boat delivery captains that would deliver your boat with all the factory glitches fixed. A friend of mine made enough during the summer in the northeast to buy a boat to live on in Florida for the winter. He sold that in the spring and started all over. Lived this way for 5 or 6 years. His biggest expense was shipping his toolbox and spare parts cache around.

We have a new Maytag washer and believe me, that repair guy is NOT sitting around with nothing to do. The current generation of "smart" and "eco-friendly" washers are nothing like the old Maytags. Five years ago we gave our 15 year old Whirlpool to our daughter and bought a new Whirlpool. After 4 failures in 3 years, we sold it and bought a top end Maytag. It's broken down twice so far. Meanwhile the 20 year old washer at our daughter's place is still washing clothes just fine. Wish we could take it back!
