I've got a 30' Itasca with two 15,000 BTU air conditioners. One is dedicated to the rear bedroom. I'm planning to remove the rear A/C so I have room for a large group of solar panels. We live in Northern CA and typically avoid the areas that have very hot summer. We also use lots of battery power when we're camped. Our 2012 rig has only 38 hours on it.

I'd love to hear some suggestions for closing up the A/C opening on the roof that is water tight.

If you can fit your solar panels around it the hole should be the right size for a roof vent a power vent would help with air circulation if that won't work closing the hole should be easy enough on the out side a piece of flashing and some dicor, inside insulation and maybe a decorative board to mount a ceiling fan on.

i would suggest keeping the a/c unit until exhaust all the options. if you could post a photo or schematics showing your roof layout, we might be able to offer some pointed suggestions... on my roof, i could fit 7 or 8 of 240w panels, but only installed 5 so far with total 1200w, along the periphery of the roof. my panels are sunpower, which boasts the highest efficiency in the industry with relatively small footprint. the only trick i did differently than others - for the outer brackets, i installed them with the bottom of "L" inward.

Great idea. I'll be able to figure that out once I get the A/C removed. I hope I'll be able to find a 12volt power source in or around the hole.
