Repaint coach in Minnesota

Hello,

The clear coat is peeling so bad on our 2000 MADP4080. Anybody ever had RV body work/paint done in Minnesota? I am in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

BTW Newmar was very unhelpful when contacted about the issue. It must not bother them that one of their high-end coaches drives around with peeling clear coat looking kind of ugly. Or maybe it's not important to them to show how shiny and new a 13 year old coach can look as well as the wonderful word-of-mouth testimonial they could get about how they stand behind their workmanship.

Ben

Precision Painting in Bremen, In.

Does excellent work. It would be worth the drive to Indiana to have the job done there.
Let me know if you need additional info. PM

I think his point was they could have been a little more helpful?

Myself, I think the "stuff happens" clause is used a little to often when it comes to RV paint. Not that I would expect them to do anything about it at this date, but a reputation for having that kind of problem SHOULD concern them?

BTW, would you expect peeling clear coat on your 13 year old high end car or boat? Would you grant as normal the potential of a cross county drive to get it taken care of as well?

No, I would not expect it, and would not be happy, and probably would fuss about it to all within earshot, but would definitely NOT expect any company to even LISTEN to me on a 13 year old product!

I did rant a little, but the exact response from Newmar was "You need to get it repainted." There was no offer of them providing a recommendation, or even selling me on their body shop. Just a short, impersonal answer.

I have taken it to 3 different places near my home and they have all come to the same root cause without my input. The clear coat layer was applied too thin. Unfortunately, they don't have large enough facilities to do the job.

This is clearly a workmanship/manufacturer defect. I am not expecting any compensation from Newmar, although I wouldn't turn it down. I just want to find a place that will fix it right.

Excellent excuse to make a trip down to Mazatlan and have it done there. The money you'd save would more then compensate for the trip. JMO.

I think Universal RV in Rochester MN might do it.....I had them repair my high end coach that has some sun peeled roof cap. I can't remember the details but they did a good job. Since it was out of view - I can not remeber if they clear coated it - but I think they did. The have a paint booth that they do firetrucks and things in. If they can't do it - they will know someone. Call and ask for Scotty.

I have a shop in La Feria texas that will repaint / clear to front and rear of my 03 dynasty this fall. He paints rigs for all three local rv dealer with any damage. I was to lazy to get it done last spring so I am set up for fall when I go back to texas from Mn for the winter. He is 1/3 the price of anything here in MN or Ind. I have seen an older bounder that decals were really bad. He painted entire rig, put on paint for decal replacements. It looked better than new and it was 1500.00 for job Paint has go up so it probably would be more now.....

I'll be watching this thread. Our '99 Trop-I-Cal needs paint and a new roof, too. DW says she would take a trip South to get 'er done, but neither one of us wants to take the coach across the border.

I cant even take my rig into canada let alone mexico. Way too many weapons and crown royal bottles, and I dont want to think of the wine cellar.

If you want info on the paint shop send me a pm dupdyke@gmail

I definitely second Precision Paint in Bremen. My 2000 DSDP looks incredible for a 13yr. old coach. I do know of another place but it's in Lakeland, FL. called Creative Coach. They did some hail damage repair, and did a great job matching the paint.
