Had Anytime Mobile RV Repair of Tomaston, GA come and replace my HWH slide/ leveling motor. Motor failed after six cycles. Told him about it and to work on getting a new pump under warranty. That was the last I ever heard from him. Called, emailed, texted and certified mail with no response. Finally got a new motor from HWH myself. In my conversations with them, I find that he never ordered a new motor from them. On changing out my motor, ( No easy task) I find the motor he installed to be a used part. See rust on through bolts. This guy's a deadbeat and unfortunately, I love to take him to Magistrate Court, there's no good way to force him to pay. He took me for over $700. He goes by the name "Red"". Dresses out at about 350 pounds.

Rip offs.. many in the rv field. If you are in the kansas city area be warned. The mobile guy from independence, mo. will leave you hi and dry...all the time telling you how good he is. Seemed like a nice guy had him fix some things but he had to return and to fix again telling me he could fix in his sleep? Well found he couldn't even fix it when he was awake. Not recommended will not even return calls or fix something that was under his so called warranty after spending $2k+ Noticed he has 3 different company names. Lesson learned.

RV Service Reviews and local CraigsList ads are easy ways to let a lot of folks know about Red.

Only $700??
Red and Anytime Mobile RV Repair must be new to the RV repair business.

And you must be new to having RV work done.

After 14 years of such shenanigans I no longer even bother to complain when I get ripped of for anything less than $1,000.

I'm learning that fast. Problem is, I don't squeeze into the same little cubby holes I used to and I gotta hire somebody to do it. But, you're right. It's rough industry.

I always ask around where I might be staying, also use www.rvservicereviews.com to find an RV service tech. It's not a perfect way, but so far no horror stories for me.

as above mentioned by others, i always and only use those on rvservicereviews.com with excellent scores (5 or more excellent scores desireable). when those are busy and can't take mine, i am aware they are busy for a good cause. i'd rather wait than sorry.

I appreciate that. I'll definetly go there next time, but in this case, this guy came reccomended by the locals and he DID fix the problem promptly. Only issue was, he repaired my motor, over charged me for a new one, plus freight and the repair failed in six cycles. Then has been ducking me. Thinking about going to the local TV station and seeing if their consumer advcate would be interested in my story. Still PO'd. Courts can't do sqwat. Deadbeat.

Sorry to hear about your problem, and I agree that a court couldn't do much for you because there's no way to prove that the motor was DOA, or whether something else killed both the original and replacement motors.

Have you taken the dead motor into a rebuild shop to have them bench-test it?

Here's a twist on your stories. Last year I was talking to a guy on the Heartland forums who was having trouble finding someone to pack his wheel bearings. I noticed that he lived in OK so I offered him the option of coming to my place in AR and I told him I would show him how to do it and also teach him so he would be able to do it himself. My DW thought I was cray.

He and his DW showed up with his 40' Big Country and backed it into the drive. I offered my 30-AMP hookup for power. They got here on a Sunday morning and I think they left on Tuesday afternoon. All went well and while the actual labor time was not over $150-200 I did take my time and instructed him on exactly how to R&R the races and properly pack the bearing by hand and adjust the bearings. He told me all along that the $$$ part was no object but that he didn't have the cash on him but would send me a check. He did pay me $20 for the synthetic grease that we used and he did buy all new seals. He melted the plugs on the extension cord they used because they went blew the 30-amp circuit a few times. I didn't realize the melt down until after they left.

When they left I told him to send me what ever he felt was fair. We did spend a good 6-8 hours doing the job and me doing most of the work of teaching him. I also had him pack and adjust two of the bearings so he knew how it was done.

Well I really never expected I'd hear from them again and of course no check ever came. He never did offer me any $$$ for the three days of electricity. They were heading to Houston because his DW had survived breast cancer and she was going for a check-up. So I guess I got ripped off but I suppose it was my own fault for trusting people. Would I do it again??? Probably but not for the same guy.

Sorry that happened to you. You did a nice thing and for that you should feel good, I like to think the other party feels guilty for not holding up their end, but I doubt it.

Too many similarities between RV and boat owners. On the water, it's the guy that has a DIW boat several miles offshore, so you tow him all the way in that kills several hours, then help him get the boat on his trailer, and when he pulls the trailer out of the water....keeps on truckin'

Years ago My dad hired some landscaping work done... Well the man got the job half done and then never returned, Nor did he answer his phone or return calls.. Finally my sister, the family lawyer, called and left a message, something to the effect of "You'd better get out and finish the job or I'm going to know why".

Well, she (And the rest of the family) now know why.

The police returned the call when they found the contractor deceased (natural causes, he was, after all, an older man) and told her.
