Repairing Opening in Previously Applied Dicor

We had a little accident in our class A (Tiffin Alegro Gasser, but shouldn't make a difference) and need a little advice on how to fix it. We got caught up in a tree and bent the ladder on the top. No worries with a bent ladder, but the problem is one of the 'tubes' that attaches it to the roof got pulled out of position, and the previously applied sealant/Dicor around it ripped. There is a hole about two inches by half an inch, which I'd like to fix. If I use the leveling sealant from Dicor, will it be thick enough to cover the hole without just falling in? If not, is there some patch or something I should use to cover the hole first, then seal around it? My concern is just using some duct tape or whatever will stop the sealant sticking. I've found Dicor sealant patches, but they don't seem to recommend using the lap sealant around it.

Any suggestions for this (very obviously) newbie?

Thanks ahead of time!

Great question.

I would think that a 2.5 by .5 inch hole would be ok for Dicor. You would just need to slide something firm in there to prevent the Dicor from running in the hole. I just removed an antenna that was there for probably over 20 years. The exposed part of the Dicor looked bad but as I scraped I couldn't believe how new the rest of it looked.

Good luck.

Dicor Non Leveling Non Sag Lap Sealant White 551LSW should work. Dicor is really good sticking to old Dicor if you clean it well. If you think the hole is too big a gap, use DiSeal Patch Sealing Tape which is compatible with Dicor lap sealant.

Thank you for the response both of you! I've purchased some Dicor, and am now just waiting for the weather to let up and give me a chance to use it. Darn Texas rain!

Just clean the old Dicor really well with mineral spirits or 91% alcohol. Apply a generous coat of Dicor, being sure to overlap the outside edges at least 1/2".

Personally, I would use the Dicor 502LSW self-leveling sealant! You'll get a much better looking job!
