Replace kwikee steps with Slide Out Steps

My coach has the 2 step kwikee steps. Yes they work; BUT they are the source of noise as you embark or disembark as well as rattle when we run the washing machine. I have seen the steps that slide out on higher end coaches that appear to be sturdy and quiet. Has anyone any idea as to a commercial source of these steps such that I could replace my el-cheapo steps?

Ours are kwikee 3 step and no noise (except the motor when extending/retracting) or rattles. Possibly yours have something that is too loose? To identify, you could try shimming with small pieces of dense foam like swim noodles. If that cures it, a more permanent fix could be made.

Lubrication with lithium grease would probably take care of both issues. Spray can available at most auto parts stores.

Perhaps some solid heavy foam under the steps would dampen out the tinny sound as you step on it. Perhaps that would take care of the rattle from the washer spin cycle since I can change the resonant frequency of the step by placing a brick on it. They are well lubricated.

I'm pretty sure the MH manufacturer makes them for their own use.

I checked mine as I ascended this morning. it seems like one side is solid to a stop when it is fully extended and the other seems to have about 1/2 inch of give. I need to find out if there is an adjustable stop that can take care of that "clunk" every time we embark.

I checked the Online catalog from Powergear / Kwikee and do not find the slideout type. Perhaps the OEM's make them themselves.

Kwikee Series 42 Steps - They use slides on the sides rather than the folding bracket arrangement.

on my steps there are two cam like adjustments that brace the steps when extended. check when the step is extended on the sides and you will see what looks like abolt, adjust til it is tight

I made 2 stands that can you can adjusted and put them under the steps after the coach is leveled. I have seen them for sale at several RV shops they are just screw jacks that you put under steps and adjust for the height. Once I put them in place and adjust the steps are rock solid. I leave them just a tad loose for a day encase the coach settles.

I adjusted one stop as it was loose. Now quieter and does not rattle with the washing machine. Thanks
