Replace Slideout Awning

We have a 16' X 32 inch living room slide that need the awning replaced. Does anyone know if I can use a heavy material like the canvas patio awnings on the slideout?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Last year a friend and I removed his torn slide out awning and took the material to a local upholstery shop, they had the exact replacement material and made up a new one. You might check your local shops to see if they have the stuff.

As far as canvas awning material goes, I don't see why it wouldn't work. The original looks like canvas that's mated with some kind of water proof stuff.

Let us know how it works out.

Hi I just have to tell you that we repaced my awning from my extended, and was a piece of cake very easy, and we pick up the material from the internet a better one, and I tell you it can not look and be better than that, we pickup a nice better quality material and within a couple of hours was done nothing hard, just time and patiend. And you will be more that happy to have a longlife job.

I have taken mine to a local awning place twice now (once in Dallas, and this year in Dayton) and had new fabric sewed to size. The first replacement looked like the original, but didn't last. This year I used Sunbrella vinyl fabric that is a very close match to my patio and window awnings.

I would guess that anything that will roll easily will work ...if it is too stiff to roll around the small roller (as some canvas would be, especially with hemmed edges), it would not work well. If it WILL roll easily, go for it!

dinkie0720,

Can you give us the link to the site where you bought your awning material?

Paul,

While you are waiting on a response from dinkie0720 try ebay. I have found some really good prices there.

I replaced both of mine using Sunbrella. You'll need to have "pockets" sewn in the attaching edges and the open edges hemmed. So, if you buy hte fabric be p0repared to do the sewing. A marine shop that makes boat tops is one place that will carry Sunbrella

Why not just buy a replacement from the original manufacturer? It probably is Dometic and is one of their standard sizes. They also have different grades of material available. The awning barrel should have a model number and info needed. DACOTAH

Both times I have bought from a local awning/boat cover shop my cost was as much as 1/2 less than it would have been from Carefree, and I had a wider choice of material. And the roller tag to tell them the size etc was long gone on one and unreadable on the other.
