Replacement jacknife couch options?

Upholsterer wants $2000 to do the couch in my 04 Coachmen. Anyone gone new? As long as I get the width and extended length the same aren't they a pretty simple swap?

What about a used couch from a newer premium coach? Again match the footprint and drop it in? It can't be that simple. Anyone?

We remove ours and the booth. Replaced the booth w/ 2 parson's chairs from costco. Replaced the sofa w/ Stressless swivel recliners. And we love the extra room we created.

I took the measurements to the local furniture store and found one that fit. Queen Sofa sleeper. Drove the MH there and they took it apart and put it in for me.

So no reason to even look at motor home specific stuff except to make sure it fits through the door? That's great. Thanks for the responses!

I have the jack knife couch that I replaced with 2 recliners. It is brand new. I would be willing to part with it for way less than$2000.

An RV jackknife sofa well may be the most worthless piece of "furniture" ever created. They are uncomfortable to sit on and even worse to sleep on. I moved mine to storage and replaced it with a nice euro-recliner and ottoman.

To answer the original question, $2000 is ludicrous. I think I've seen them new at Camping world for 600-700 and that seemed crazy. I encourage you to think outside the box and see if there is any way you can make better use of the space.

We deleted ours and got a pair of real leather Lay-Z-Boy recliners. Chairs came in two pieces each. Were delivered to our storage lot and installed. No issues. Just need to check the space you have available and order to fit.

I would be interested but I am in northern Alberta so too far to come for a look see and the shipping would kill me.

What we did on our large slide.

This is from another post I made awhile ago.

When my wife & I started looking for a MH we said the exact same thing. We didn't have the money, nor did we want to go buy a new coach which some offer these features now, but from what we saw, recliners/TV setup was usually in higher end, later model type MH's which again we couldn't afford...even a used one. And, it also seemed that if we did find a nice used MH that we could afford, it had a couch across from the TV area which also didn't recline, was impractical and terribly uncomfortable,

We also had another need. I'm a graphic designer and photographer that works on the road and I needed a desk to run my business while traveling. Trying to find a MH that had recliners and a desk that we could afford was impossible. It's just my wife & I, so we don't need to sleep 6 or 8 people and all that other rubbish. We have our bedroom and that's all we need.

Since I'm not afraid and am quite capable to tackle pretty much any modification that would make our MH more comfortable, practical and friendly to live in while we're traveling FT, we looked and found a MH that had pretty much everything else we wanted and could afford, had a lot of CCC and I changed the inside to the way we wanted it. One of the mods we did was, change the entire large slide area behind the drivers seat.

Mod's on the slide to achieve the recliner/TV and desk are the following:
1) Removed "J" OEM couch
2) Installed a 2 chair loveseat with console
3) Built custom desk
4) Built & installed 2 additional storage drawers under the booth to match OEM cabinetry.

I posted another more detailed description of this along with pictures of what I did on this slide and also why we choose the MH we did here: (post 11)
http://www.irv2.com/forums/f258/new-...ng-349311.html

Bought Love Seat on Amazon ($800) and I built the computer work station out of #1 grade birch.

Now this may not be something you or others want to tackle, or even meet your personal needs, but this is how we addressed this problem and was the way we could afford what we wanted and needed.

Good luck.

I love the look of what you did. Just not sure I could give up the second bed option, even tho it seems like a once a year or less thing we would use.

I have to say every time I look at furniture upgrades the first thing that comes to mind is "how did you get that through the doors"? Did the top half of the recliners come off?

If you want something similar to a jack knife couch (but more comfortable) the look up Coaster Furniture online.
They have several couches that fold down at the back to make a bed.
We found one that was the exact size of the whole made when we took out the factory couch.
MUCH more comfortable, and so far it's holding up well.
