Replacing Carpet on the slide

How hard would it be to replace the strip of carpet that is on our slide. The rest of the coach is tile and laminate. The carpet acts as a threshold between the slide floor and the main center floor.

The carpet odor has to go and we tryed everything. The size is about 2 feet wide and 14 feet long. Has anyone done this themselves? Has anyone paid a carpet store or rv shop to replace it? It's so small, if it's not too expensive, I'd happily pay since I'm not very handy.

It shouldn't be too difficult to do, the carpet is probably just glued to the floor of the slides and maybe stapled in places. The big issue will be finding someone who can sew a bound edge trim on the new carpet. Otherwise you'll have the raw edge of carpet to fray.

Go buy a new piece of carpet, take the old one out to use as a template. Measure, cut, and take it to a carpet shop to have the front edges bound. Bring it home, lay it down, staple it in place using a air stapler. Thats how mine came out and was replaced.

We replace our 2 slide out carpets every other year now, which is easier than doing a deep steam cleaning.

To remove the slide carpet, it should be just stapled down and easy to pull up. If the carpet goes under a cabinet, just cut it flush with a utility knife.
At this point you have 2 options:
1 - Take the removed carpet piece to a carpet store and have them cut a new carpet piece and then sew binding to the front edge. Caution - ask for the price on the binding, I have been quoted from free to $4 a foot!!
2 - Go to Home Depot/Lowe's and buy a remnant carpet that has the binding sewn on all around as a rug. You can sometimes get a 7' X 14' piece for less than $100. Use your old removed carpet as a pattern and cut out a new piece with the binding left on the front side.
For installation, lay the carpet in place and put staples in along the rear and side edge. For the front edge, lay a strip of double sided tape. Don't forget new a pad.
Another thought is to drive your RV to a local carpet store and they might be able to replace the carpet with the RV in the parking lot. Doesn't hurt to ask.

On my last coach, I did exactly what Grindstone said and it was easy. I bought a 9x14 area rug at Lowes. Then I removed the furniture on my slide, pulled the old carpet and used it as a template. Stapled the new carpet down and reinstalled the furniture.
The area rugs already have binding all the way around.
