Replacing Front Window Pull Curtains

This seems really simple but wanted to see if anyone else has done this in case I am overlooking something. Our Fleetwood has the useless pull curtains for the front driver and passenger windows that have a track screwed to the bottom of the overhead cabinets on the drop down bed. These curtains seem useless and no matter what we do seems like when the window is open and traveling they get sucked out the window or they come undone from the Velcro strap. Looks to me I could just take that track out and screw in a couple of brackets to hold a black pull down shade from HD or Lowe’s. Has anyone else done this? Any thing to consider?

BlueThunder4-

Our coach came with motor-operated front shades and useless side shades. The side shades were made of perforated material. We replaced them with ones having solid material.

We use the front and side shades when on the road. We deploy the curtains only when stationary. Since we added the Magne Shade windshield and side window covers, we deploy the curtains only when it's dark out. We leave a gap between the two curtains, so the cat can watch the nighttime goings-on.

The prior owners of our coach had the same problem of the curtain blowing around with the window open. They sewed a fabric sleeve that goes around the bottom of the curtain when it's gathered together at the end of the track. The sleeve is about 18 inches long. The curtain is a snug fit in the sleeve. There is a hook nearby for a tie-back (basically, a nice-looking piece of rope). Gather the curtain, stuff it in the sleeve, loop the tie-back around the sleeve- works great!

Replaced our side curtains with these. They match the power windshield shades. This is the supplier Coachmen uses.

American Duo Roller Shades | MCD Innovations

I found the Coachmen part # and ordered them from our local dealer.

"BlueThunder4"......Your coach is almost new, I don't think I would take down the curtains and put up something homemade looking from Home Depot. You have several options.....you can add a decorative cord (braided) around the curtains when open, about half way up and install a hook behind them to hook the cord on.

A better look would be to add the MCD or Auto motion manual shades to the sides. You can add a nice power one to the front. If your handy, you can do the work yourself. The side window shades are inexpensive, but the front shade can be pricey. It is nice though to have a shade you can lower while driving.

Good point, I’d like to keep a clean install look. I’m going to try the decorative cord first as suggested and see if that resolves the issue, the factory Velcro circle just isn’t enough to hold the curtains back while under way. If that doesn’t work I’ll order the MCD shades so at least they will have a more factory look 😆
