I am getting ready to attempt this refit. My question is, has anyone tried to mount the articulating arm on the bottom of the cabinet to take advantage of being able to lower it when viewing? My 26" flat screen will not fit into the existing hole and will need to be movable in order to open the cabinets next to it.

when replacing a "big butt" tv with a flat panel, what most do is to remove the cabinet trim around the old TV, remove the tv, then put in some stout wood, 2x4's or some such inside the cabinet, then put the trim back on. whatever mount needed to hold the flat panel screws to the 2x4.

I just changed out both TV's in our rig and am a bit disappointed. The viewing angle is a bit high and the picture doesen't always look right. The sound is terrible. I am considering how to add speakers to improve the sound. If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't....

I replace the front TV by inserting a piece of 3/4" oak ply cut perfectly to flush mount with the cabinet. The insert is hinged on top and I installed latches on the bottom so the TV can be mounted directly on the wood with screws through the wood, and a cutout was made for the wires.
As for sound, I chose a TV with the speakers mounted on the front bottom. My choice was a Vizio.
I have seen wireless speaker units that can be added if you have poor sound from your TV.

I too don't like the audio from my TV. I am using a Belkin FM transmitter that plugs into the audio out jacks on the TV. Then tune in the FM radio, which I have 4 good speakers connected to it, and run the audio thru the radio. Not the best but better than the TV alone.

I did mine and it turned out great. The sides on my over head cabinets were metal on each side were the old TV was. I installed a piece of plywood to the back of the TV. Had my friend hold the TV in place against the front frame while I screwed a big angle bracket to each side and to the TV plywood from underneath. I filled in the bottom front frame with 2 pieces I trimmed from the sides to allow my SAMSUNG 32" to inset into the front frame. Then I installed an expanded metal alluminum screen ($7 at Lowes used for backing for stucco) on the bottom, for the sound to come out from behind. I also installed a VISEO sound bar ($90 at Costco) above the TV for home theater sound when watching movies. I also put my WII in the left cabinet with the sensor on the sound bar.

I did it, I did it, I DID IT! Followed the above directions and this is what I ended up with! So pleased!

A few tiny details to complete.....(the curtain behind hides the small gap at the top that doesn't show in these pictures).

Here are pictures of my install. Consumer Reports said the TV I picked had a great picture and bad sound so I added a sound bar to my install.

Deblas, thanks. I copied from another post so I can't take too much credit.

Sequim Guy, my TV sits in a channel at the bottom that helps support it while traveling. To open the compartment I tilt the TV forward and lift the TV out of the channel. There is enough play in the swing arm to allow the TV to lift enough to clear the notch.

The TV does slowly tilt forward while traveling so I made the wooden clip seen in the photos that fits behind my sound bar and sits on top of the TV in a notch. The "clip" prevents the TV from tilting forward on it own.

Can I assume you are from Sequim, WA? We travel through Sequim on our way to Sekiu to go fishing.

I also see that you were in the 9th Division. I was in the 147th Hillclimbers, a Chinook helicopter unit that supported the 9th Division in Vietnam. I was there from Oct 68 to Oct 69. I remember transporting the 9th Division from the field to Bear Cat when the President started withdrawing troops.
