Researching Buying New Tires

Toyo responded to me in 2009 or 2010, either way when a manufacturer tells me they do not want my business, it concerns me. It appears from the issue other tire makers did not have the issue or decided to address it differently. But until Toyo wants RV business they will not have mine. I think if a problem does arise Toyo can limit liaility somewhat by telling everyone to go elsewhere for tires.

In reading the story it doesn't appear that the tires were bad. The specs of the vehicle and the specs of the tires did not match. From my reading it seems like there is no true "fault". The coach manufacturer built their coaches in a way that exceeded what the tire could withstand. The tire manufacturer just made the proper decision.

I don't disagree but a lot is at risk with tires, I realize tires have gotten ridiculously expensive and I am feeling the pain when purchasing new ones which I will have to do in a year or two. I maintain my ties use 303 protectant to help reduce UV damage and maintain proper tire pressure.

plane, I really don't understand why Toyo would say that. After all, they put out a comprehensive document on RV Tire Safety covering a whole host of topics pertaining specifically to RVs. They also have an inflation chart specifically for RVs. I have attached both below.

Very true that a lot is at risk. Even without taking into account the human life, there certainly can be more vehicular damage that can occur to a motor home versus a car if a tire should blow.

My big complaint is that posters make unfair and uninformed assessments about tires when it comes to different posters. Will brand X have a better life with a full timer who drives at 72 MPH's in all types of weather and terrain or the owner who camps 15 weekends a year and 2 week long vacations ? One owner covers and maintains proper inflation but the other doesn't. Again my point is that all owners are different. Make your case why your chosen brand satisfies you and forego the negative comments about others choices.

It was not my intent to be negative or to bash another brand or push my choice of tire which I never posted. It was my intent to pass on information provided to me by a VP of Marketing at Toyo who stated I should buy a different brand. The purpose of my request was to allow me the opportunity to make a informed decision.

Love the new tires, great handling and ride. The BEST QUALITY tire I've owned are Michelin's, and I've been buying them for 40 years and will continue to. Awesome customer service, too!


I've Never had a failure or a flat on a Michelin, can't say that about other brands I've owned.

Alpha99, I can go a little better than that. Started using Michelins in the early '60s when they first brought them to the USA for American car suspensions. That's just over 50 years, using them on everything from pass car to RVs to class 8 trucks. NEVER had one failure.
Also, I seriously question all these "surface cracking" stories I hear. NEVER had that problem either.
But, I always took care of my tires; checked air pressure on a regular basis.
I realize a lot of people can't afford the price of the Michelins, but the best is never cheap, and the cheap is hardly ever the best.

I have found over the years tire shops will tell you the best tire for your application will be the one they have in stock 😠

With 6-8 tires on a MH, I'm assuming many owners rebalance occasionally. How about rotating?
