Retrofitting and induction cooktop
Does anyone have any experience with replace a propane cooktop with an electric induction cooktop? Does it require a 50 amp circuit? How hard is it to run wires if required? We are in a 2009 Newmar Dutch Star model 3623.

The most popular induction cooktop in new RVs seems to be True Induction. Their 110VAC unit needs a 20 amp circuit. My LP cooktop had an outlet for the spark ignition and it worked fine for the induction power.

Most of the new MH's being delivered with built-in induction cooktops are using the one by Tru-Induction that can be run on a regular 120V, 20A circuit. This cooktop has two burners but limits their power in order to run on such a small circuit.
Most MH's aren't wired to use 240V appliances which is what most residential induction cooktops would require. Getting a separate 20A circuit into your kitchen may be a challenge.
One thing we did to get more power into our kitchen was to extend the circuit that feeds our washer/dryer. It is 20A but, of course, it isn't used all the time. We brought it into the kitchen so we could run our countertop induction burner as well as our Breville countertop toaster oven. We were able to fish the wire down from the washer outlet and then run it through the basement up into the kitchen. Maybe you can do something similar.

Mine is on the outside wall in back of the cabinet under the cooktop.

Steve, I just checked and mine has electronic ignition with a 12VDC source!  Looks like my best bet would be to try to get a wire from the microwave/convection outlet in the top cabinet.

How about the under sink cabinet. Any power under there? I have an outlet in that area also.

WOW! Steve, you're the best!  There is an AC outlet on the back wall in the cabinet behind the sink with nothing plugged into it!
I've been working on Annette to install the induction cooktop but haven't convinced her yet! She doesn't want to spend the money for new cookware! Anyway, now I know I can do it! Thanks a million!

I can't tell you how happy we are with our induction. We bought a portable 2 burner True Induction a couple of years ago and never use the LP anymore. Luckily, we were using nesting pots from Camping world that work so just had to buy a set of 3 frying pans. The induction is quicker than gas. No down side that I see. My wife doesn't like that if you pick up the pot for more than 5 seconds it turns itself off but doesn't bother me and I'm the cook.

The "turning itself off" wouldn't matter would it, since there's no heat on the cooktop anyway, and the pot would cool down the same whether you're using LP or induction. Am I thinking correctly on this?

Ours is, but only for the dryer. I'm not sure we'll ever do the conversion to induction as we very seldom cook on the burners anyway. the Advantiums we've had in the last two rigs do just fine for us.

We love our countertop induction burner and our propane cooktop is a very high end residential brand that works very well. No sense in replacing it.
