Rettroband Equipment

rettrobrand.com

Has anyone actually had these bands installed on their motorhome? With all the concerns about front tire blow outside, thinking about giving them a try. Would be interested to hear pros and cons.

While you're waiting for new comments, there was a very long thread on it back in March in the Entegra Owner's Forum discussing the topic that you may want to read through:

http://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/inte...ce-434191.html

There are also multiple threads on the topic in both the Monaco Owner's Forum and the Newmar Owner's forum:

List of threads this year on the iRV2 forums dealing with RettroBand

(if you had already done a search and didn't find anything, it could possibly be because there's a slight misspelling error in your inquiry ...it's RettroBand instead of Rettrobrand)

I have done a lot of research on Rettroband and actually just got off the phone with the National Idoor RV Centers' GM (the company with sole sales and installation rights in the US). I plan to purchase them based on responses he provided me regarding warranties by Rettroband, voided warranties by Freightliner (or any chassis builder), ride, etc. He mentioned that Freightliner and Spartan are wanting to buy and install Rettrobands as an option going forward which is a good sign. I do want to hear from buyers to ensure they have had no balancing / wear and tear issues and ride comfort after installing them. The GM did tell me another interesting comment - he did like Tyron Bands as a less expensive option than Rettroband (although you will still have the "drop" in case of a blowout) but he said if your tire size is >315 the bands will not work effectively. The Rettrobands will.

To start, tire size has nothing to do with how Tyron Bands work, so there's a lie right off the bat. Second, people should realize that neither Rettroband or Tyron prevent blowouts, they just provide a level of control after a blow out. Your tire will still fail, the Rettroband just gives you something inside the tire to drive on, while the Tyron Bands keep the tire from coming off the rim. Is that internal "tire" capable of driving on all surfaces or will it fight against teh good tire????

If these companies thought they were such a great safety item, why don't they make them more reasonably priced versus gouging people for alleged safety. Are the trucking companies buying them????

Lastly, if you feel that you have to have another level of protection and can afford them, go for it. Just keep in mind, your tires will still fail. Don't get a false sense of security.

Michelin will void their tire warranty if virtually anything is put inside their tires other than air.

If you have a blowout it doesn't make any difference what brand tire you have when it comes to warranty. It is blown out and now you have a problem. Anything that hepls keep the wheel off the ground is a plus and at that time, to heck with warranty. I want to be able to get the coach safely to a stop which might not be able to be done if the tire has come off the rim.

This great information! So when one of my properly maintained Michelin tires blows due to a manufacturing defect and I total my coach, I can take solace in the fact they will replace the tire.
