has any one put a reverse osmosis 5 stage system on your coach? i have been using it in b&s home and love it. i am thinking it would be nice to have it in coach so we don't have to go out to buy filtered water all the time. anyone with me?

Had one in my mh but was taken out by po but have 2 filters so water has been fine

The ro system needs both to waste water and have an reasonably high input pressure like around 60psi or above to work effectively. Do these things concern you? I would think it would be next to impossible to use while mobile but could work while on hookups.

thanks pop and staticman. you are right - it does waste a lot water and requires water pressure. i am on mobile more than stationing, are there alternatives?

If you have an accumulator tank in your rig and send the "waste" discharge back into your fresh tank it can work. RO systems like constant pressure that RV water pumps are not designed to provide. If you install an RO system without a large I.e. 2 gallon accumulator tank you will likely damage your fresh water pump. It is safe to send the waste water back into the fresh tank because it just has a slight higher salt and mineral content.

I have 5 stage RO in mine. It works great. I have a permeate pump kit and an 100psi input boost pump. I also wired in a pump/supply valve operated by a pressure switch. Brine goes down the drain. The pumps cut down the bypass ratio. I don't boondock, but it makes water just fine going down the road.

I installed a Watts W-315 3-Stage RO Unit in my park unit and a 1 Stage in my RV. (My RV already had whole house filters, so the other "stages" weren't necessary.)

Anyway, both units work fine at 40PSI. However, from time to time the water pressure in the park drops to around 20PSI, and then the RO will not operate.

Like previous poster, my RV RO unit is plumbed to send its waste water into the fresh water tank, so no water is wasted in the process.

thank you all.
there is a single whole house filter, the big canister after the fresh tank. as coma did to use an additional pump, that'll be sure to work, but i am not sure how to make the waste water going back to fresh tank... open a hole on the lid of the tank?

Just route it to the input line of the tank in your fill area. You should be able to put a "T" fitting in to permit this. I recommend a vacuum breaker and a one way check valve to prevent pressurized water from being sent into the output of the RO system if you plumb it this way.
