So am I! I had no idea this was such a complicated problem. Perhaps it's been obscured to keep folks from DIY?? Or maybe to sell more door hardware??

In the commercial construction I work in we have adopted the method of ... Stand in open doorway with your back to hinges, if hinge pin is on left, it is a left hand door, etc. if ordering parts I would use a description of some sort, do not simply say right hand or left hand as there is a 50% chance for error based on differing terminologies

Having worked in the industry, the actual answer is:

The door manufacturer will normally provide a diagram showing how THEY (the manufacturer) specifies "handing" and illustrates it relative to "inswing" or "outswing" doors. In other words, they make their own rules and one manufacturer's "left hand" may be another's "right hand". The most common method is: hinge side (as viewed from entrance) = handing.

That fits with the diagram I posted.

lol. Go to any door in your home and stand where you need to push it open.

If you push it to the right, it's a RH door. Left to swing left? LH door.

easy, right?

P.S. this is the same info as in post 18 and 22, just another way of describing it/

RJ, it seems your question has stumped a whole bunch of us here in the forums.
I'd have to ask the moderators if they keep records for the most posts to a thread without a good, complete , un-arguable answer.
But we'd be up against , Ford vs Chev for the record , so we wouldn't stand a chance.
If you could post a description or picture of the part you need maybe we'd have better luck, by providing a part number or supplier for you.

:
Respectfully, the OP's question didn't address the crux of the matter; whether when he walks up to a door, is he going to Push the door open, or Pull it?

Given the number of responses, I think he can figure it out.

OP here,
Its an RV entry door,....their all the same, hinge on the right, latch on the left, and I pull the door open towards me.

The link I posted above, shows the part for the screen door that I ordered.
I think it has been determined that it is a RH door, and that's what I ordered.

Please let us know if it does take RH hardware. Unless you're in Australia, I think RV entry doors are LH.
