The irons he is using have special bends and hooks that make changing tires easy. Grew up on a farm and changed many tires with them. They use tire slime to lube the bead, but a little diluted dish soap will work too.

Had friend who had a flat 22.5 on his left front they changed his tire and didn't even take the rim off the MH. Raised it on the jacks pulled the flat tire off and put on the new added air lowered jacks on his way.

I have changed a tire like that on the outside wheel without removing the wheel from a truck many times. With the right bars it makes the job easy.
I would think if you have an unmounted spare they may charge a few bucks to mount it because other than selling you a tire what would be the point of the service call.

Good idea with having a spare and the 19.5's are much easier. I've given up on finding a good spot for one.
As for your road service, I've never known COACHNET to not cover it all and except for the price of a new tire, of course. Insuring yourself and another household member covers road hazards for any vehicle you might be driving, whether it belongs to you or not.

If you want to carry a mounted spare tire, here is an option for you to look at.

Roadmaster Inc. - Tow Bars, Braking Systems & RV Accessories

But, the discussion of whether or not to carry an unmounted spare has been discussed on here a zillion times and, I have never, ever heard that roadside service DOES NOT mount a tire on a wheel. I have always heard that they will bring a new tire, to put on YOUR WHEEL.

With the correct tire irons, an experienced tire person can dismount a 22.5" in a matter of a couple of minutes. If you take just a couple of minutes and watch this video, you'll see an experienced person do it.

I'll have to check with our road side service to see what their rules and guide lines are.

EXACTLY.

I drive semi all over the US. Never carry a spare. No roadside plan either.

Call road service, tell them the size and type of tire needed. They bring it out and swap it onto your rim. In fact, quite often they do not even take the wheel off the axle! They just lift it up, and change it right on the vehicle. However, on a RV, probably have to take it off the RV, because of less clearance around it than on a semi.

road side assistance mounting new tire

On our previous coach, we carried an unmounted spare tire in one of the basement compartments. We had a major blowout in 2012 and the spare got us back on the road. Coach had over $50 k in damage but was still drivable.

Hardest part was getting Good Sam Road Service to understand that we had an unmounted spare so they needed to dispatch a service truck. They dispatched a heavy duty tow truck, which was fine because we were sitting axle deep in mud in a farmers field. But most tow trucks aren’t prepared to handle remounting a 22.5 inch tire. So we had to wait another three hours for a service truck. Naturally, this was a holiday weekend Sunday.

Good Sam’s covered all the costs, but we were so frustrated with their handling of the situation, we switched to CN when it came time to renew.

Our new coach is smaller with less basement space so we no longer carry a spare. But since we’re now both retired, we are on a more ‘laid back’ schedule.

I carried a unmounted 19.5" spare tire in my Winnebago for years never had a need for using it. The peace of mind was worth the loss of storage space. Roadside service will mount the tire on your rim if the rim is in good condition.

The contract will tell you.

That wasn't the question. Obviously the contract doesn't cover mounting the tire to the wheel, just changing the already mounted tire and wheel.

Question was if anyone had carried their own dismounted tire, and how much did it cost ( above the RSA coverage) to mount the tire.

When this happened on my travel trailer a few years ago, the cost was $165.00. When I spoke to Good Sam, they told me this was a negotiated cost and was independent of what type of vehicle you had.
