Yep,
Been using Walmart for temp stops for years. We don't AIM for Walmart. We aim for a campground/RV park etc. But, if circumstances don't line up, it's Walmart for the night, if we can find one and, if it's permitted in that particular store.
We carry a full printed notebook of all the Walmarts in the U.S, and, as has been stated, they are listed whether each store provides or allows for overnight camping/staying. We do TWO things when using Walmart

1. Even though it might be on the list as a camping/staying ALLOWABLE Walmart, I always, without fail, go in and contact the highest ranking individual possible, i.e. manager, assistant manager etc., whoever's in charge at the time, and ask permission to park in a distant corner of their parking lot. I might (and quite often have) have already seen folks in their RVs setup in the parking lot but, I make it a point to ALWAYS ask. They are normally quite appreciative of me asking.

2. 99.9999999% of the time, once we're settled, we pop into the store and go shopping for something. Heck, we might not even really need anything. But, I'll buy a $5 movie just for us obtaining the privilege of staying there.

3. Yeah, we pop out the slides and, drop the jacks. Some folks go absolutely berserk over that. But, we're not gonna be cramped for the evening with the two slides in, just because some don't think that's appropriate for Walmart staying. Besides, if that parking lot is the least bit un level, the jacks take care of that and also make the coach stable.

4. And for all the whiners out there, we're normally GONE by sun-up. And there's absolutely NO EVIDENCE that we were ever there.

It is very nice of Walmart to provide for travelers, a place to stop and rest for an evening. NO, we don't CAMP at Walmart! We don't stay for days and cruise that area and do attractions etc. If that's the plan, we find an RV Park. or campground.

We've stayed at Walmarts, Sam's Club, Cabela's , Casinos and truck stops. In most cases no problems.

We were in Florida back in the late 90's in our Class C. We went to a Sam's club for supplies and asked at the desk if they allowed overnight stays. The manager came out and he said "no problem" just came back after the store closed. So we did. About 1AM in the morning it started to get loud. Lots of cars going back and forth playing loud music. We went to the window and it appeared that it was 2 groups of people, each on both sides of the parking lot, hiding behind cars and peering over the hoods. Didn't look like it was going to end well so we got the HECK out of Dodge. I jumped in the drivers seat and just took off as fast as the Class C would go. We ultimately found a Walmart to spend the rest of the night. Wish we would have stayed at a Holiday Inn.

If you drop the jacks when it is hot out, you will leave holes in the asphalt. Not nice.

Also if there is other campers there, I don't ask for fear of being told no. I would just say, I asked someone in the store, if anyone ever asked. Nobody has.

I-75 MI to FL twice a year, 10 years now. We stay at Walmart almost exclusively now. I applaud you guys that look up management for permission, but my experience the few times I tried is I just get a blank stare like "duh, yea we allow it, why do you think there are so many already in the lot?". I quit asking.

MRUSA14,
You are correct if, IF you park in junk asphalt. Walmart parking lots are commercially built. The substrate that's used is either road base or other prime based substance. If my measly motor home could put dimples in their parking lot, so could dropping 18 wheeler trailer landing gear which, we've seen used many, many times. And we have yet, to see any DIMPLEs in any of their lots.
