Roof Damage

I took the coach in to have new windshields installed. They did a nice job on that. The Bad-They moved the coach and parked it under a tree and the branches dug gouges in the roof. They haven't responded to my request yet about the repair. I was advised to have the roof replaced rather than repair the gouges. Not sure I agree with that. The damage is very small. I believe it is a rubber roof. What are your thoughts?

Thanks

Eternabond is what I used on a tear on my rubber roof. Last I knew it was at 2.5 years and holding strong.

Today's modern caulks and patches are incredible, as long as the surface is flat and drains I'd patch. Use good quality RV caulks and patches, then keep a cheap moisture meter in your rig and monitor the roof and suspect areas from the inside FOREVER. Water is our greatest enemy with our RV's.

Replacement gives an infinite opportunity for many "skilled" mechanics/body specialist to install a myriad of new leaks!

If you can see the gouge - tape it.

Gang - always take pictures of your entire MH/car before you drop it off for service.

This practice saved me when getting a repair on my car. The repair facility scratched one tinted window and tried to deny it. My time/date/location stamped photos showed no scratch when it was dropped off...

I do this with rental cars, also. Odometer/quarter panels/roof/grillwork and interior of cab and trunk.

Unless there is serious damage to the substrate underneath, I'd just patch it. Unless of course the roof is already in need of replacement due to age or weathering. I see the coach is a 2001, so that's a consideration.

Thanks all.
The roof is in very good condition-probably replaced by a PO at some time. I resealed the entire roof area when we bought the coach. I ordered a roll of Eternabond.
