Talking Roof on my RV

Hello all I am a new member I just joined today so please forgive me if this is in the wrong spot. I just got my first camper, i got it free so I can't complain to much. She is a 1987 Georgie boy Cruize Air. My roof looks like crap, suprisingly it only leaks over in the bathroom roof vent. Someone has put OSB on the top of this camper and it it is swollen and spliting. I am looking for a place to start i've been watcging a lot of video's online, should i just rip off the OSB nd see whats under it or what? Just looking for a starting place any help would be great I Can get pictures soon, thanks in advance for the input.

Are you sure the OS wasn't the original roof that is exposed after the EDPM (rubber membrane) was removed? The swollen OSB will have to be removed. That will allow you to inspect the roof stringers and make sure they are sound. I'd then put down marine plywood as a new roof, then use EDPM to cover that. Dicor is a good source for quality sealers and EDPM products.

Your free RV is going to cost some money to make it waterproof and useable.

If I had to put a new roof on my RV, I would use TPO (Thermoplastic polyolefin).

I have a 1999 Lance Camper with TPO and the roof looks brand new.

My 2003 Class A, stored inside most of it's life, has an EPDM roof that is OK and cleaned and treated annually. EPDM is not as tough but may be easier to work with for you.

If your going to keep the rig for a while and use it....Then personally, I'd rip it all off and replace it the right way. It will be a little work but then you will know it's been done right and you won't have to worry about it and can enjoy the rig.

That looks like a lot of work ,did the po just attach the boards too the old rubber roof? What is the condition of the inside?Just because it was free by looking at the photos it looks like a big time $$$ pit . How is the drive train and tire's are you planning on driving it at all or just leaving it on site?

Roof

Hi, ya i plan on driving it, the motor and trans is in great shape, there is some inside damage from about the bathroom back, going to rip it down to studs this weekend and see how bad it is, i know the floor in the bedroom is shot i might be able to just patch in the floor in the bad spots but the entire bedroom is shot from the ceiling down, i think they put that over the rubber roof, will find out soon but i covered the roof with a tarp to slow down the damage.
