Roof or walls?
Just had my Tiffin detailed and the fella used two different ZEP products. I wanted my chalky roof polished and sealed and the rest of the unit waxed. Not really asking whether the product should be used or not but was wondering which product might have been used on the roof. Thanks.

I would think the floor sealer was used on the roof! Looks like it is good for stains also!

RROLDSX,
1. Very interested in the Zep Floor Sealer as I too have the chalky roof residue dripping down on the coach side walls. Did you test to determine if your roof is now very slippery to walk on?
2. What prep was required before application of the Floor Sealer?
Thanks much.

Sandy,
I’m sorry I wasn’t there for the prep. I do know he power washed the roof. Later he went up and down along the roof several times. I’m not certain he was drying it or applying a prep or actually applying the product. It is shiny now and I was cautioned at how extremely slippery it will be up there. All I can say at this point is the coach looks great.

Unfortunately, those are commercial interior products. As such, it has no UV protection, which is especially important for the roof as the gelcoat is very thin. Made for easy labor and a pretty finish, but not the best for longevity of your roof.

Well this is what I did on my fiberglass roof, for a much better, long lasting finish, easy to clean, UV resistant and reflects the hot summer sun.

Country Coach recommended Formula 303 on the non painted Gel Cote. It is a UV blocker and does avoid the white streaks. I apply it once per year for 17 years.........

Sorry, it’s raining. I used his ladder to look at it as my ladder will not support my weight. It looked great and was told it will last a year. The roof is already waterproof, I’m just trying to eliminate the streaking. I don’t like coatings as I’ve spent many hours on previous motorhome removing layers of crappy roof coatings.

What everyone needs to understand is that the white streaks are from the fiberglass gelcoat breaking down due to UV damage. This is the same issue for those that don't have full body paint. (Boaters understand this problem well) So your washing and coating is not only to clean the roof (and sides if unpainted) and protect from mold, but also to reduce the rate of UV damage. Which is why you look for an outdoor wax/coating with UV inhibitors. Think of it as SPF 15 sunscreen for your RV!

I use a Marine wax a couple of times a year. Having owned boats for years prior to the coach, it’s just the way I approach the issue. I use a 3M product that also has UV protection. I will have to explore the 303 product mentioned above.
