Roof support for Winterizing ?

Hi all:

We recently pruchased a 34 ft Class A (National Seabreeze)and will be winterizing for the first time here in Winnipeg (Canada). I have heard about needing to install a roof support to help with the weight of ice/snow but noone here seems to do that. Any advice? Do I need to shovel it it the snow build up gets too high and how muych is tood high. Basically I dont know how much weight the rig can safely support.

You can walk around on the roof, so that gives you an idea of the lbs/sq ft it can support. But the plastic vent lids may not be as strong - might be a good idea to make a wood cover for those if ice and snow builds up substantially.

I lived SW of Calgary in the foothills. I can attest to the need for some roof protection in some winters. Had the roof cave in on an 85 Winnie Class A. Since then I build a length wise teepee with cheep 3x3 or 2x4 to give good grade for sluffing off snow & ice. Cheep, large Princess Auto tarp, tied down with too many ropes will keep it snug till spring. Just do some clever way of keeping door access into unit to inspect from time to time. Some good carpet foam will keep the frame from blowing around and slipping. If you have the room a large carport will give you a longer lasting solution.
My insurance didn't cover me and I ended up doing the roof repair myself. (Insurance is another story).
