Rooftop Pipe Vent

I have a 1 1/2 in pvc pipe vent above the kitchen in my '92 Fleetwood Bounder 28ft Im assuming it's a gas release vent for the black tank.

How can I find out what this leads too and should this have a cover on it for rain? The kind that still allows gas to escape but shields it from rain getting in?

Thanks in advance!

Its a vent, all right-Works by allowing air into the tanks when draining, just like your house plumbing vents, which don't have caps on them. Caps on RV vents are more for keeping wasps and or other critters out of the vent than from keeping rain out, caps or no, doesn't really matter until a mud wasp builds a nest in yours and you can't empty your tanks.

Lots of vent caps out there, I've found the cheap plastic caps get eaten up by the sun pretty quickly, so, on my former 5ver, I bought the galvanized metal caps, primed them with gal primer, then a coat of white paint. Stuck 'em down good with Dicor. Good as new when we traded the 5ver for our MH.

Yes, it usually does have a cap. They get brittle with UV exposure and age. A branch could have knocked it off.

You could figure out what tank it goes to by flushing it with water and see which tank fills, or drop some food coloring or dye down it and watch for color tell in next dump.

Good ideas, thanks! Im looking for one that can slip down inside the pipe to attach and stick out. Does that exist?

The replacement cap will work reguardless of what base you have. Its just a cap with tension springs that attach to the inside of the pipe.
