Route Advice Northbound Through Dakotas

Planning for Alaska trip next year (2018). I'm looking for a good route northbound through Nebraska/South Dakota/North Dakota into Manitoba. On Google Earth, I'm looking at US 281, US 83, US 183 among others. Anyone have advice on these roads, or a better route? I'm not concerned about the shortest route, but would like to stay on decent roads. Thanks for any help.

I live in Bis and I think 83n would get you right in with no detours and plenty of stops and ltowns

I have to agree with beenthere about Hwy. 83. Four lane divided highway all the way to Minot. When I go to Williston, ND, I take Hwy. 183 in Nebraska to I-90 and then get on Hwy. 83 going North. Hwy's 183 and and 83 are both just two lane but very little traffic so can get right with the program. I take 183 because it is convenient for me, Hwy. 281 is probably ok as well. If you are going near winter time keep an eye out for the weather. I went up in November and got stranded is Bismarck 2 nights because of a blizzard.

To all who posted answers, thanks a million! I really appreciate the help. I'll probably go northbound around early- to mid-June. I don't need no stinkin' blizzards!
