Running RV VIN

Is there a program to run an RV VIN like an auto through Carfax or something? If so is there someone that can run one that is not a charge?

Thanks,

Yes. My coach had a carfax report that I reviewed before I put an offer on it. It showed a generic chain of ownership and locations from the original registration to the seller I purchased it from. It also showed salvage, insurance claims, etc.

When car or MH shopping I just buy the bundle of a few checks from Carfax, just part of the cost of buying.

Go to www.rvchecks.com; I have used this site to run the VIN on my Newmar Mountain Aire before I bought. There is a charge, but you will get a comprehensive report. There are some "freebies" out there, but I would not trust them.

As others have said, CarFax does do motorhomes, AutoCheck is hit and miss (I emailed them asking why and they said they don't do motor homes but it does work for some).

This free site will outline major flaws but it's probably just useful as a first level check since it doesn't give you everything https://www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud_awareness/vincheck

If your looking for info on your coach as built by Newmar use the COM-NET2 link and enter your VIN# or coach build number.

007, was not for me but thanks. And yes I have gotten the as-built on my coach from Newmar right after I bought it. I actually called them and they faxed it right over.

I'm with Vsheetz. If your serious about making a large investment in a rig, paying for the Carefax is just a part of the expense. We did and it was worth every penny. It showed odometer readings on all emission inspections, title transfers and registrations. It showed loans or liens on the rig, transfers of title with mileage at time of transfer, average miles driven per year, structural damage reports, airbag deployments, or odometer rollback reports. Ours showed the coach had a fender bender in Nevada. The seller showed us where (after we asked). Inspecting the repair, we could not see any evidence of the repair which showed they did a really good job. But, had we not asked I'm pretty sure he would have never told us about it.

If they didn't file with insurance, it won't show up. Mine didn't.

Pirate, Your right.... "do it yourself" repairs are not reported and probably an incident where no police report was made, but I would imagine either the repair was very minor or you'll see it on your visual inspection. Just sayn'....CarFax gave us more insight on the rig we were looking at.
