RV deep cell batteries

We're having batteries issue. We need to buy two new Auxillary batteries. We've already bought a new chassis battery that got completely run down and out. Not sure if the converter is the issue. We have a 2014 Thor Ace 31ft. and it seems the electrical is a bit wonky.

So question...what type of battery...a deep cell at least 700 crank amps?

Please advise.

Deep cycle shouldn't have a CCA rating. That's a starting battery unless you're talking AGM's.

The converter probably is fine. After you put in new batteries plug in your RV and see if the voltage at the battery terminals goes up a volt or more. If it does the converter is working.

Storage batteries run down over time due to internal leakage and external leakage. You can use a disconnect for external leakage. You pick your chemistry for internal.

You should get the type of batteries that hold power, those things are awesome.

Exactly what Mr D says. CCA is for a starting battery. Your house batteries don't need cranking, they are power storage. Look for the best amps per hour rating.

Starting battery/s with appropriate CCA's are best for the engine. Deep cycle batteries are best for the house battery bank.

If you can keep your coach connected to shore power during storage, your house batteries should be charged. Many coaches do not have charging/maintaining capability for the engine battery/s. If you don't have that capability on your coach, you can add a Trickle Charge device to maintain the engine battery/s when stored and connected to shore power. If you don't have access to shore power during storage, suggest you add good disconnects for the batteries.

Deep Cell and Cranking Amps are exclusive

For the HOUSE:L you want a pair of GC-2 class GOLF CAR batteries these are true DEEP CYCLE batteries roughly 220 amp hours give or take a bit depending on the exact model.. Interstate U-2200 (220 amp hours) or Deka G-20 (230 amp hour) are good. they are a bit taller than 12 volt batteies (most 12 volt batteries) but have about the footprint of a Group 24

For the starting battery Which you may need to replace again, you need to get the same physical class but go for CRANKING AMPS on this puppy or Cold Cranking amps (You can use a Marine Battery here they are not cold rated) No need for "DEEP CYCLE" on the starting

What is the difference
Starting are designed to dump a lot of amps for a short time, Need to be kept 80% or more full Generally run 'em down once and replace 'em.

MARINE/RV/deep cycle are starting batteries that can go a bit lower, say 75% SOC MIGHT recover, from a deep discharge but do not count on it.

DEEP CYCLE (Golf car) can go to 50%SOC before rapid aging sets in. 50% IS a deep discharge for the other types. Good chance they will recover from a serious deep discharge (As in lights do not) with some loss of overall life. Mine made it 9 years.

They do need a drink of Distilled water from time to time though.

Now. It appears you have other issues.. You said the batteries are DEAD, are you plugged into shore power IF so you need to make sure your converter is working. This charges teh HOUSE batteries.

If you have a BIRD (Bi Directional Isolator Relay Device) THen it should also charge the CHASSIS battery. and on a rig tnat new I would hope you have a BIRD.
