RV Insurance

I realize this question is based on personal preference as well as overall experience. What is the best (not cost but coverage & service) RV insurance? I presently have AMICA, but only because I have been with them for 53 years! I do believe we need an insurance company that is familiar with RVís & their contents in order to adequately cover any losses or repairs.

Any information or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I have AMICA also (but just for the cars). Progressive for the rv...they have been good for us.

Check with an RV insurance broker such as http://www.gilbertrvinsurance.com/

They can tell you what different insurers have to offer.

I checked with several companys and nobody was even close to Progressive. I had heard that they had the best coverage and the best price and nobody could touch their price or even come remotely close. They cover a lot of rv's.

I was with Progressive for a few years but the premiums kept going up substantively every year.

We have fulltimers with Poliseek, car is with Progressive and RV is National General Triumph. Seems like the older our vehicles get, the more the premiums go up. The car is registered in Florida and the RV in Montana. Keep saying that I'm going to check around. Use to have GMAC, but it got too expensive.

We have had GMAC for 10 years and have not had any significant rate increases. No claims but I've heard from others that their claims were handled to their satisfaction.

We did price others and found that GEICO was a little cheaper but they didn't offer the same coverage. Too many stories of Progressive raising rates.

Another vote for GMAC insurance. Fair price and good service. Only had one claim after a deer and us tried to occupy the same space. Neither of us won. After a call to GMAC a local adjuster came and settled our claim. Good company.

Thank you for choosing the Good Sam Vehicle Insurance Plan, underwritten by GMAC Insurance - a company known for world-class service and innovation to more than a million customers across the country. Over the past few years, we've added online self-service and paperless policy options and we've enhanced our technology platform to meet and exceed all of your service expectations.

We are an ever-evolving company and we always strive to be better. That's why we've decided it is time to change our name and look. We are changing the name of our company to National General Insurance. This new name and look better reflects who we are today and who we plan to be — a forward-moving, leading insurance provider.

Beginning July 1, 2013, you will see National General Insurance in a variety of areas. For example:

Envelopes, policy booklets and other correspondence may include the message, "GMAC Insurance is now National General Insurance" to help you identify correspondence from us.

You will see, "Natl Gen Ins*..." on your statements when you pay with a credit/debit card.

You will see "Nat Gen-GMAC INS" from July 1 - August 31, 2013, and "National General" beginning September 1, 2013, when payments are drafted from checking/savings accounts.

You don't need a company that is familiar with RVs, but you need an insurance policy written specifically for RVs. It's more like house insurance than car insurance, and a car-like policy will leave you really sad if you have a incident.

We use National Interstate through the ExplorerRV agency.

Very timely that this thread has been resurrected.
Today, I received notice from GMAC of my renewal due next month. It has increased by about 30% and listed an "at-fault" accident as the reason.
I totaled my toad in December when another driver ran a red light. They admitted fault and paid all claims but GMAC still have it as my fault. I called them and they need a letter from my car insurance stating it was not my fault after which the premium will drop back down to $17 LESS than last time.
On a related note, I went with GMAC due to a Good Sam quote of $180 when we bought the coach . 2 months later they sent a demand for another $300 because they had "made a mistake". After numerous calls, they relented and stayed with the original quote until the 6 months was up. Then back up to $600 per 6 months.
My other cars are with Geico but each time their RV quotes were significantly more than GMAC (now National General).

National just took over GMAC for Goodsam. My wife damaged the door of the car at a camp we were volunteering at. Trying to avoid cars that parked around her, she didn't see the pole to her right as she backed up. Private property, no laws broken... the company charged her 3 points on the insurance. This is her FIRST 'at fault' accident and her second ever. We are old enough to draw SS. What's up with the that?

National is making me wonder just how good they will be. I got a cancellation email from them yesterday but no notice of payment due before hand. Clerical error? Now my insurance is $3500 for car and coach. That seems very steep to me. What say all?
