RV insurance for Full Timers

We just purchases a Tiffin Phaeton 40 IH and are shopping for insurance. Our home broker has found us insurance while we still own our home. However, when we mentioned full timing after selling our home he mentioned that he wasn't sure how an insurance company would personal belongings within the coach.

Can anyone provide insight on what to do? I am sure there is insurance out there that take care of this sort of thing. We would appreciate any advise.

Progressive didn't seem to have a problem with it. As I recall, you select the dollar value of what's in the MH and they calculate the rate. If you also plan to store belongings someplace like a rental locker it could pose a problem. Give them a call, hopefully, you'll not get Flo on the line.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Congrats on the new rig! We're not fortunate enough yet to have the problem of finding fulltimer's insurance! Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Time to say goodbye to your home broker. Try Miller Insurance and FMCA Insurance for full timer insurance policies.

I was able to get competitive bids from both.

We've never had any problems with not getting personal items covered by the full-time policies we've had in the past.

My recommendation is to initially go through one of the agencies that have expertise with providing RV insurance. They can tailor the policy to your needs and find the right carrier for what you're looking for. Full-timers need specific contingencies since the RV now becomes your permanent residence. Using an agent that is familiar with the process is usually a good idea for your initial policy if you're just beginning the full-time lifestyle.

Ones we've contacted or used in the past are:

Miller in Lake Oswego Oregon

Destination in Missoula Montana <---really liked them

Explorer in Richfield Ohio

or

Farm & City (FCIS) in Forest City Iowa

They all have agents that specialize in RV insurance. Not saying that you can't do it on your own but using an agent that is familiar with what a full-timer needs is much easier the first time around.

They are licensed in most states and can provide all types of insurance even if you still have property somewhere or need a liability umbrella (BTW, an umbrealla policy is something that is really important for an RVer, IMO).

Another vote for Progressive. No hassle about full time. No hassle with a $13K claim.

I have been with Progressive for 8 years with three claims during this time. Always excellent service and response, highly recommend them.

Give Gina Shaver a call at Epic insurance Brokers *(605) 271-8100‬. She specializes in insurance for full timers. We're full time and she has given us real good service.

Every motorhome policy should have a Personal Property coverage provision in it, but often the limits are set low, maybe $2000 or so. If you are fulltime, or even long time, you probably have much more than that in Personal Property onboard, so need to raise that amount. It shouldn't cost a lot more.

If you still had a homeowners policy, it would also have PP and would help cover your property in the coach, but without that it is only what the coach policy has.

A warning: insurers often consider all RV accessories to be "personal property", sometimes even awnings, front bras, etc. Especially if not factory equipped. You may want to add a few thousand in PP coverage just for that alone. The tow bar for the toad is probably personal property too, whether damaged or stolen.
