On the other hand, I have a buddy that was looking into purchasing an RV but wasn't sure what he wanted. I wasn't about to loan or rent him mine. I encouraged him to rent a nice DP, which he did. Don't recall which brand it was, but I believe it was a 38'.

After all the problems they had on that week long trip, they bought a house at the beach instead.

So maybe the rental program does have it benefits.

One of the issues on the rental sites is their MBA commercial insurance won't cover RVs more than 15 years old. I understand that risk goes up with vehicle age, but on the other hand a highly used 10 year old RV might be more dangerous than one that is 20 years old and lightly used.

There are a couple of ways this could work, but they are all when it is a business, not your baby. As pointed out, MHs are different from a home (AirBnB) or a car (Turo), as most people know how to operate those. As a business, at least one owner needs to be mechanic extraordinaire because every time one came back, it would need a thorough going over to ensure a good experience for the next person.

As a personal endeavor, the way it could work, is like a time-share, where two to four families buy one together in shares proportionate to usage, and all the participants are mature adults and won't cover things up because they realize that ultimately negatively affects them (and, they are responsible to begin with). Unfortunately, with extended family, the idea falls apart because they would probably want to hang out together in RVs somewhere so they would all need it at the same time.
