RV storage in Extreme Weather

We in going into an extremely hot weather pattern in the South and we were concerned about how to care for the RV which is in storage outside?

Are there any things we should be doing to prepare for the heat?

Depends on how much security the storage facility has of course and whether or not there is electric available.

If you have electric, run the AC set at 85°.

Then, open all the ceiling vents (unless you have the AC running). Cover the tires that get sun. Keep the shades closed. My rig came with front windshield sun screens...if you have those, put them up.

As far as the engine and drive train, not much to do except be sure your fluids are topped.

Last but not least, if it's going to be there for awhile, and you don't have electric, then disconnect the ground cables to the battery sets.

Georgeann, My MH is outside year round here in Tucson, AZ. Not many places warmer than here. I have cut several pieces of the silver bubble sun reflective material for all of the windows. I do not leave any food in the MH. I have also done the (RMP3) or (Red Max Pro 3) wax treatment to the exterior and that seams to work pretty well against the sun. I keep mine on shore power all the time but that may not be possible if it is in storage so disconnect the batteries. Heat will ruin your batteries faster than the cold so you have to watch the water level. As others have said, cover your tires from the sun light.
It's just a dry heat.

Good suggestions so far. The best solution is to find covered storage, if you can't do that, get three or four big plastic containers and fill them with water and place them around the inside of the RV. That will help keep everything from getting so dry.

Find a roof.. We're in Texas and rural roof coverage type storage around $100/mo.

If I *had* to store it in the sun for long periods of time in TX, I think I'd get a reflective cover for the roof.
