I'm a huge fan of independent inspections. On a DP, 2 of them. One on coach integrity and systems, the second on the chassis.

The first coach I had inspected was supposed to have an 12 month old engine in it. 36k on the clock. That inspection was halted when we found that the oil filter was rusted. There is no way on earth a 12 month old filter should be rusty. Turned out the owner was suffering from dementia.... and there were no service records available.

It's not hard to strike a deal on a coach where a stipulation has been made that the deal is off if it won't pass an inspection.

It's also common sense to stop an inspection at the first sign of a major repair. The fact there are more repairs required, in addition to the first, is a moot issue? E.g. The inspector finds evidence of water damage. Could be roof, or a sidewall delam. Just me maybe, but at that point I don't care if the engine starts or not.

I think you missed his point. he was saying you negotiate a fixed rate with the inspector for a total charge before you hire the inspector. As in house inspections you pay what they can rip you off for and that's about it. I agree an inspection should not cost more than a house inspection.
