People need to realize, it's not only high winds that do the damage. Your house/motorhome may be able to take the wind by itself but in many cases, it's the blown over trees and flying debris that cause the most damage. Direction of the wind is one of the many variables that make or break a structure. Thunderstorms, flooding, hail, and tornadoes are all common with hurricanes. Roads may become impassable.

Utilities (electricity, water, sewer, gas, phone service) can all be down for weeks or longer. Cell towers will be jambed up, if they are working at all. Stores probably won't have the supplies you need and you can forget about basic foods like milk and bread. Gasoline, diesel, nope and nada. We've been through all of the above and it isn't fun.

Leave if you can, there's no use taking chances on something like this.

in the opposite direction ?

wouldn't that have you heading toward the hurricane ?

Going home tomorrow to my post-Harvey flooded home. (Lucky, only 18" of water in the house. Built it to be in-floodable)

Sat the whole thing out on top of a Colorado mountain. I LOVE my RV! What better way to use it?

The Atlanta Motor Speedway has opened its doors for Florida evacuees. Free parking there for the duration. See the thread titled, "Urgent: Florida hurricane RV evacuees."

GO TED AUDSTADT!!!!!

This had to be at least part of his idea. He was the promoter at Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Savannah and put together a Meatloaf benefit concert for Katrina victims.

Why live where they have hurricanes? There are plenty of other places to live.

No place is 100% perfect. If the weather is stable, then the ground might not be. If the economy is strong, then social injustice, awful traffic, crime, etc. And some people need to be in an area for doctors, family, jobs, or other needs.

We all choose the place that we can afford, that meets as many of our needs as possible.

Question ---- have you ever had an 18 wheeler blow by you and feel how it shakes your rig???? OK - multiply that a thousand fold because a truck blowing by you is nothing compared to 185 mph winds from a Cat 5 hurricane.... Oh - maybe it becomes becomes only a Cat 4 - that's still 140 mph winds...

Either of those will TOTALLY destroy that shoebox on wheels.... Me???? I'd already have my family, pets and RV as far out of the way as humanly possible....

We had our RV ready to go during last week's fires in So Cal and thankfully the evacuation order, or even voluntary evacuation suggestion, never came. No brainer to us.

Lets see, i can live on the west coast where the ground shakes, annual fires rage, and/or mudslides occur. Or in the midwest where unpredictable tornadoes come through. I would freeze my buns off in the north and be miserable in the desert. All of the southern and eastern states have to worry about hurricanes. Honestly, there's not that many areas that offer perfect living conditions.

If we do take your advice, do you think those other places will hold all of us?

Just north of Atlanta works for me. None of the aforementioned threats.

Cheers!
