RV vs Hurricane

What's the idea on leaving with your RV when in path of Hurricane vs hunkering down and go through it?

The best way to deal with a Hurricane is to use your MH to be somewhere else.

If on the road, I would drive hastily in the opposite direction as soon as it was predicted to head our way. However, if at home the house would take priority but I might try to get the coach into the indoor storage facility I use over the winter.

Numbers based on preliminary evaluations and estimates found today.
Over 60 deaths in TX alone
1 million cars and trucks damaged - over half may be totaled
Quarter million homes damaged or destroyed
100 billion and climbing economic loss
Chemical pollution - over 1 million pounds of dangerous air pollutants released
16 superfund sites damaged and eleven more can't even be accesed for evaluation
160 plus drinking water systems on boil advisory and 50 more shutdown or damaged and usless

Still waiting for estimates:
Erosion and silt damage
Crop damage and livestock losses
Lost fish, shrimp and oysters
Highway and bridge damage
And a lot more

This is from a post on iRV2 today. Thought it was important to let those among us that are not familiar with the destruction that a hurricane brings.
Would you really want to ride it out?

why ride it out when it only takes a day to get out of harms way?

It may only take a day , however you need to leave 72-96 hours ahead or you'll be stuck in a major traffic jam and may not get away.

Proof alone that there is no reason for gas prices to spike given those vehicles are not being used and consuming gas.

Yes, all good points. I don't plan on sticking around if coming our way and will leave early morning hours when most won't travel like that. I have hurricane impact on half house but really want to get 37 ft Fleetwood out of harms way if comes my way.

As Cliff said ... and if you are in southern FL you can't really drive the length of the state (450 miles) plus wherever you need to go in a day.

Evac'ed for hurricane Ivan. I would have been better off staying home. Many tornadoes near evac location and was hard getting back as gas was already in shortage.

Don't want to cause a panic but, a major cat 4 or 5 is going to make landfall somewhere between Bermuda and Mexico.

Not enough information aye?

The good news is, if you have an rv, you are halfway prepared.
