Absolutely: Get the resi fridge if you can. It cools better/faster, makes ice 5 times faster and is just better all around with a few exception. If you like to dry camp you will need to run your generator more to charge the extra batteries you'll need to keep the resi fridge running. The standard RV (absorption unit) can run on very little electrical power while using propane. So if you are away from a electrical hookup for periods of more than a week this may be a consideration. Otherwise the resi fridge is superior to me. I will not go back after having one.

Last time I had a mobil RV professional come out to repair mine he said if it fails replace with a residential. It works much better in real hot weather, hold more food colder, and and its half the price. Only down fall is it wont work going down the road cause you need 120v unless you use the generator. I always seem to use the generator cause the AC is needed for my kids in the back of the motorhome.

The residential refrigerator can be ran off an inverted connected to an adequate 12V battery bank.
You can also recharge the battery bank with solar panels.

I just finished, replacing my "NotCold" refrigerator, with a residential one. I am so glad I did. Planning my frist trip with it and am so, looking forward to it. I would never go back to a NotCold and it's problems.

If your are not going to be boondocking much a residential is the way to go. The residential will run on the inverter while you are traveling and use power from the engine alternator so no draw on the batteries. While parked you can continue on the inverter or fire up the generator. If parked overnight without power we just keep the doors closed and leave it off. If not in a really warm climate it only drops a few degrees.

I have no issues with my absorption Dometic. It has performed well above what I expected, given what I read on this board before I bought my coach. We tend to stay in a lot of national and state parks where dry camping is the norm, and I'm happy to not have the extra batteries I would need to run a residential.

Ditto on the Dometic. Zero in freezer and 32 in frig, on the '2' setting.

With camping fees rising all of the time, dry camping sure looks good! We dry camp every chance we get so residential fridge is out for us. Even when traveling across the US we never stay in a CG. We just left a dry camping rally that was six days and loved it!
