SACHS Shocks -vs - KONI
I have been thinking of changing my shocks due to a rough often jarring ride so, I called freightliner chassis to get crossover numbers. The rep I spoke with gave me the freightliner part numbers as well as the SACHS part numbers which are currently on my 2005 37' Fleetwood Bounder DP, which has 56,000 miles on it. During conversation, he told me that Freightliner and Fleetwood had worked exclusively together to tune the SACH's shocks to give the Bounder a premium ride. He said the KONI's would give me a stiffer ride than the SACHS and he has had several customers want to switch back after changing to the Koni's. Oh my goodness, decisions, decisions, now I'm truly unsure... any thoughts here guys & gals?

That is the First Negative thing I have heard about Koni shocks, not so sure I believe his Opinion.

Sachs and Freightliner are owned by the same parent company. Sachs and Monroe's are about the same both cost & engineering wise.

good handling shocks are most always rougher ride..compared to good riding shocks...jeff

I have heard a lot of complaints about Monroe shocks though, Just sayin.

Perhaps I should take the conservative approach and only buy the front two Koni's before diving in for all four? Yes/No ???

Any time you do shocks they should be done in Matched Sets.

I agree that this would be best. However if you replace axle at a time, it would be no problem. My Monaco has 10 shocks. I asked Source Engineering this question because I was considering replacing shocks and would like to do it one axle per year. Source said it was no problem and that in fact, the biggest ride improvement would come with replacement of the shocks on the steer axle. That may be my winter on '14 project.

This is Fine as long as your going Brand for Brand, but when changing brands the valving can be very different.
It would never cause a dangerous situation but Porpoising might be a not so fun ride.
