My Bounder has this system on it. Does the dampener have a "centering" effect, or is it just a dampener (shock absorber) to soften the sudden steering wheel movement in the event of a pothole or tire blowout ???

My Mercedes and my Nissan 4x4 have factory installed steering 'dampeners on them. I removed one end on each to check them, and they are just shocks, no gas inside or centering effect.

OK...so I found this on the net.
The Safe-T-Plus is a mechanically assisted, positive-centering steering control device engineered to maintain straight-ahead steering, even when encountering side winds, a blowout, pavement drops, road ruts and other hazards.

Mine may be leaking oil, as it is covered in oil. It is located directly below the front crank seal, so it my just be engine oil.
It is dark and cold out there, so I won't be able to clean it off till Sat. I will keep an eye on it after that, and see where that oil is coming from.

There is NOT an oily mess running back onto the oil pan, as I would suspect from the front seal, after the 400 mile trip I just took last week.

Safe T plus shock is $405. Oooouuuccchhh !!!!!

The Safe-T-Plus will bring it back to the orginal adjusted center point. The center point must be adjusted manually by loosing the clamp on the plunger end and centering the steering.

I installed one on our previous coach and it helped a LOT!

Saf-T-plus has a large washer in the center of the rod with a spring on each side. This keeps the rod centered. I wish I had a dollar for every time I laid on a piece of carpet on the side of US19-41 and adjusted one after installation. They work well.

$405 for the shock alone? You can buy a whole new Safe-T-Plus from PPL (or other online sources) for under $400.

I have installed Safe-T-plus on three RV's I have owned. I am a believer they are a good device but as GA Traveler indicates it can be a trial (and error) process to get them centered. I've made minor adjustments several times to get it where I really want it. Finally ended up spraying a little white paint on/near the U bolt connections so I could see how far and what direction I was moving it when I made adjustments.

I built a trim kit for mine. Now if the wind is blowing or a large crown in the road I just tap the switch. Sweeet. The safe t took the last bit of wandering out of the mh.
