Safe T Plus Steering Damper
I am really happy with the handling of my recent Bounder purchase. However; I want to teach my wife to drive it, and I consider it prudent to buy a little extra piece of mind.
There has been a lot of posts recently about tire failures and steering aids, several people sound pretty serious about going to a steering aid. The more I thought, the more "why not".
I ordered the Safe T Plus "Blue" unit last night from here Safe-T-Plus I had searched several sites and felt this was a good deal. Shipping was free and they had the correct bracket in stock. If you have a Ford Chassis check the bracket application closely, I needed the F53K2.5 due to the larger tie rod on the 24/26K chassis, not all sites showed this info.

I installed the Safe T Plus and found an amazing difference in the handling, especially the push and pull from semi's and cross winds. Remember to do the test drives to set the centering as described in the info, I did mine around the neighborhood at 20MPH.

I found just a slightly less comfort in steering. I was very hesitant to purchase one however, with the granddaughter in the unit, I just couldn't bypass even the remote chance of extra safety.

When I installed mine... the MH was empty. It tracked good. When I loaded up the motor the tracking changed and had to realign the safety plus again. The weight difference with the MH loaded (full water, gas, food, people... etc) made a difference in the way the coach handled... so Im happy with it for now, Im curious how it will track when the MH is empty again.

Can you elaborate? Was it harder to steer? Or just something about the feel of it after installation you did not like? I'm having mine installed tomorrow, and don't want any second thoughts....
Thanks

Just not as perfect as before installation. Seems to want to pull to either side but at the same time, I can drive one handed without problems.

I had a 1999 F53 chassis and put the safe-t-plus on it.... but it was after I had put on front and rear trac bars. I'm not sure when Ford started putting them on as original equipment... but if you don't have both front and rear, consider that also as it made a huge difference in it behavior on the road. When I put on the safe-t-plus, I had to mess around with the adjustment a few times to get it where it wasn't slightly pulling to one side. Once it was set up, I really liked the handling of the coach.

If you really want to get better steering control with the Safe-T-Plus, get a Trim Adjust kit from Henderson's Line-Up Brake & RV Inc.
http://www.supersteerparts.com/produ...it-safe-t-plus
We have had one for two years and it really helps, especially in cross winds and on crowned roads.

When Safe-T-Plus was on sale, I ordered one and made an appointment for Camping World to put it in. They had to order a special kit for 1600.00 more and make another appointment. (IFS) I couldn't believe how much better my steering was, when I said NO. Safe-T-Plus is a good product, just not for me.

Has any independent testing been done on these devices? Since purchasing my first MH over 20 years ago I have see these advertised and they seem to be more of a placebo than a real aid. When a truck passes you the air coming off its front end pushes the back of your MH causing you to correct my steering and as it passes me it pushes the front which I then have to correct for, so I don't see how a device that is adding resistance to your steering is going to help this. In a cross wind it's not pushing your steering wheels, it's pushing the whole MH side ways which is way you have to steer to correct.
What I found with my 04 Southward on a W22 is that running with full tank of water make for a very easy drive. My tank is right behind the from wheels and fully loaded I am still under weight on the front axle.

Does your MPG change from a full tank to a empty one?
