Smile Samsung 197 Fridge - Water in and Under Crisper Drawers

If anyone has a Samsung 197 residential fridge leaking water in the upper refrigerator compartment in and under the crisper drawers, it is because the drain hole under the defroster is plugged with ice and overflows. The following link gives an excellent fix for this problem. Samsung refrigerator service and fix: Water pooling below crisper drawers/plugged evaporator drain - Album on Imgur Did the fix myself and so far so good.

FYI at the back of the fridge inside the bottom cover there are two drain pipes into the evaporation water tray. Facing the back the far right tube is the defroster drain.

I've heard of other owners of this model ref to have the same problem. I hope this post will help.

Had another bottom frezer Samsung model that did that, and now have a Whirlpool that does the same thing, both at the S&B house. It doesn't seem to take much to clog the drain a bit and it freezes up if the water doesn't drain through easily. I fixed both myself, but it's a PITA task.

I even helped start a class action suit against Samsung over that very common problem, but the case didn't go very far and the law firm decided it was going to be long while the prognosis of a good (profitable for them) settlement was too slim.

You can buy a different tab to take care of that freezing drain problem. It was discussed in another thread a year or so ago but I can't find that posting. I have two 197's (one in the S&B and one in the RV) and added that tab to both and haven't had a freeze problem (yet).

This is a known problem with the Samsung fridge and is simply repaired. It has been discussed extensively here -Samsung RF197
It requires a new tab (less than $5.) that is readily available from Reliable Appliance Parts in Canada. It is a simple job you can do yourself - be sure the fridge is completely defrosted to avoid damaging a foam shroud attached to the cover over the cooling coils. All pertinent info is in the thread above.

Had the same problem called Samsung service they sent a tech and fixed the problem by putting in the Samsung updated fix, the tech told me that the humidity we get in south Florida was a lot higher than they get in Japan, been working great since update and that is over 1 year
