I think the answer is yes - want to doublecheck. Will the Scan Gauge II display the transmission temperature of my 2001 Ford V10 / F53 chassis? Anything special I need to know to make this happen?

It does on my '99 V10. It was fairly east to set up, just follow the directions. I think you may have to use the X-gage function to do it; its been a few years since i set mine up.

Should read about 155-170 in cool to warm ambients. Saw 185 when it was 105 outside, time to shut down.

I pull a 3500 - 4000 lb enclosed trailer. Never been in the Rockies with it, but a lot of time in the Appalachians. Never saw over 190.

Here is a chart regarding transmission temperatures based on standard fluids. Have to assume synthetics would have a higher temp protection.

Yes you have to use the XGauge function to get tranny temps. The instructions and codes to use are on the Scangauge website. My F53 normally runs 170-175. The highest I've seen it was 198 doing a 2nd gear up hill climb while towing in Arizona.

Follow-up to say thanks for the good help, and that I finally got around to installing and programming a Scan Gauge II.

Way hardest part was finding the darn ODB2 connector... Next hardest was finding the blown fuse that powers the ODB2 connector (and the 12v power port).

Yes, X-Gauge creation needed to obtain the transmission temp. Got the needed Ford data from the Scan Gauge web site and followed the instructions in the user manual. Overall pretty easy (once plugged in and powered...).

I bought at AutoZone auto parts store. Same/similar price as most online resellers. I have it mounted high on the dash in good view, stuck there with the included Velcro strips.

I'm trying to figure out if I have the xgauge code right on mine, when starting the engine does your tran temp show a low # like 15? Mine starts out really really low but as I drive will level out around 155, is that what everyone else sees??

If you shut it down at 185F, you better not try some of our mountain passes in B.C. Canada. I've hit 244 TFT when I hit the top of one LOOOOOONG steep climb

Sounds about right. Should say TFT 155.
