What's the best way to remove a couple of scratches from limbs that's not into paint?

Try one of the scratch removers that Walmart sells. Have used them for small scratches in the past and had good success. Takes time and some elbow grease to do.

polishing compound very carefully.

AGREE...Polishing compound. Used it for years even on the car.

you can buff them out if it is just in the clearcoat. You have to be careful. Easy to burn the paint. There are several types of pads and polishing compound. You also need a low speed buffer.

It may just be a sap smear or a marring from the bark or wood fiber and can be removed with PrepSol, a wax and tar and silicone remover, no abrasive, available at auto parts stores that sell paint supplies, also at Walmart. If that does not do it, then try the scratch and light polishes that are CLEAR COAT SAFE. Hope this may help, Happy Trails Bert
