SCS step controller issues

Hi group,
We are looking for some help with the steps on our 2008 Newmar Grand Star. Here is what we are experiencing. We are parked and the switch inside in not in the close position. Some times the steps stay down when we close the door, some times they retract, some times they start to retract just slightly and stop, some times they retract only partially. So, you can see they are not working as intended. When we would start the engine and close the door, some times they do not retract but opening and closing the door they will retract. Lots of positions to deal with. The controller is a SCS Frigette 202-3230. What DYI options do we have to correct this? Thanks for any help.

Based on my experience, I would first check each connection near the steps for corrosion. Pull any connectors apart and look inside.

Well, I took all the connections (both 4 pin plugs) apart and they are all clean. Put them back together and the same results. Have tried online searches for the same issue without any success. Thinking it might be the controller unit, but we don't want to drop a hundred and a half on a guess. Will go by a repair shop soon and see if they have any other suggestions, or wait here for any other replies. Thanks again all for any help.

Thanks Tony and Lori. I'll chase that number down and try to give them a call later today.

well group, we know it has been a while for any replies, but we did manage to resolve our issues. that is, we had to replace the controller and motor!! Ouch!! but, we have steps that work and nobody is going to open the door, assume the steps are down, and leap out into the 2' drop off without incidents. thanks to all that have replied and viewed and offered suggestions. we guess sometimes you just have to make a full replacement to satisfy your needs. happy RVing all!!!
